the suzuki quad sport 230 or the 85 lt 250r or the quad zilla becuase they are all crappy built, ugly and suck! the zilla can be fast but to me its a pos plus thier very unreliable unless your constantly ontop of your maintenence

I've got a cyclone sitting in my garage right now that I'm fixing for a local here. The only good thing I can say about them is they will powerslide like you wouldnt believe. Other then that the powerband, suspension, and handling sucks. Oh they're also easy to ride on 2 wheels going in circles, the auto tranny makes that really easy.

honda350r
03-24-2003, 03:50 PM
Have you ever worked on one, or rode one ? I work on them all the time and even build them...

I just think they are garbage compared to a Honda !!

I ride banshee's. My bro has 2 and my dad has one. They fly. I love it. I got used to the handling and once you are on the powerband they take off.

I'm pretty confident that the cyclone never won any of the shootouts that it was in back in 1987. I would hope that if you put a 100+ cc big bore kit on a 2-stroke that it would make it faster. I have no doubts about that. If I made my 400ex into a 500ex, what then? That wouldn't even be close.

no its bored .100 over and a pipe and it smoke my stock ex and sure its not as good as jumper but as a drag and fast trail quad you can beat it and I bought it off a guy that didnt run oil in the engine or the tranny ( there 2 seperate cases) and it still ran just fine until i checked my oil after my first day of riding it................right now it has a k&n filter a pipe bored .100 over and tuned really mean with a oil blockoff kit no floor baords but footpegs and a cyclone look like a over grown blaster with the oil kit on there same headlight and mount and front end but its much much bigger and rides very nice and fast.......................... i can tell you more if you want...................

250ex. I personally cant stand the SOB. Its a Honda, but its the slowest dam* quad in production...only to be rivaled in the past by the 230 quadsport. :huh

Worst sport quad of all time?

First let me defend some of the entrants on to this list.

Quadsport 230

I owned an 86, when i was 14-16

And man that little thing was a good machine. It is a great tight trail machine, Sure its not too powerfull or big, but its a classic, and My uncle still has his to this day. I never was on it and was thinking, oh man this is horrible. Very straight foward machine, nothing wrong with it.

Bayou 220

my best friend and riding buddy has one of these. This is a TOUGH TOUGH machine, it has been rolled and flipped many times, and just shakes the dust off and keeps going, nothing stops it.
It is very peppy, it handles great, it can get in all the tight spots and you can jump it. you Can throw it around easily ... IMO this mini-ute is a better sport quad than the 250 EX

Polaris 2 stroke beasts.

First of all, Nobody *****es that a snomobile isnt fun and takes no skill to ride because its an auto, do they?
ITS THE SAME ****ING thing thats in the polaris atv;s you fools.

400 scrambler.sport 400L
they will all eat your 350-500CC Manual 4 stroke quads for breakfast, and they handle good too.

I cant believe all the polaris dissing, you guys have either never ridden on OR with one, or you all got your asses spanked hard, and cant live with it.

Worst sport quad ever?

Ds650 / Raptors
what a bunch big top heavy overweight POS's with all kinds of crazy problems.
I hear that honda 700 XX is a big load of **** too.

If you are dragging, or in the dunes, Than I love ds650/raptors, but damn dude, they wont even hang with a polaris 400 thru the twisty trails

I think I could loose both of these on a bayou 220 and a quadsport 230 thru the woods

I dont ride those groomed trails half you sissies do

I have a feeling this thread is going to get closed. Oh well, I'll join in the fun. I'm not a fan of raptor 660s. I don't like blasters. Polaris Cyclones suck. Bayou 220s are not sport machines. 250ex- no thanks.

How about best of all time? We all have had those machines that just would not give up over the years.

I'd say mine would have to be 400ex's.

coryatver
07-02-2008, 03:26 PM
raptor 660R

tranny problems, starter gear problems, carb boots were junk and not one warrantee from yamaha. really low on power for a 660cc bike. Swing arm way to short, and Really high center of gravity, too narrow making it tippy and handle like crap. The 700 is sweet though they fixed everything that was bad about the old one.

gncc025
07-02-2008, 05:40 PM
if i had to choose from the mainstream quads made today id have to say the raptor as well. ive known 2 or 3 people that have owned them and they seemed just like a poor quality quad. i gotta say though my yfz hasnt been the best these past 3months:ermm: may be going back to honda before its over with

deathman53
07-02-2008, 05:40 PM
I have to say, the worst I even ridden was a 01 raptor, too high, narrow and short. The power was something else(atleast the worked one I rode). I rank a honda 250ex high in the list also, little power, bad handling and that auto clutch!!!!! I had a warrior, very stable, but heavy everywhere and not enough power. I killed a warrior, 250ex and left a bunch of guys on in the dust(on various bikes, warrior, 400ex, 300ex, raptor and some polaris) on my 86 atc200x, that bike is awesome in the woods. I hear a 350x is like a slaughter house, as it makes alot of torque. I left a ds650, raptor, 400ex, warrior and mohave in the dust on my 85 atc250r, flew past them in the open and had an edge on them in the woods. Trikes are much more nimble in the woods(when setup right). I saw a polaris cyclone 250, it took 3 people to pick it up, PRE stone age suspension and I was told, handling was subpar.

The best/worst atv is all in the hands of the user and he/she sets it up. I love trikes, I'll take one an day over a quad, 86 atc250r and 200x especially. My trx250r and 250r hybrid rank very close to my friends walsh components 05 trx450r, if it had a twist throttle, I'd like the trx450r maybe better.

I've owned a 97 warrior, 85 tecate 3 and 85 and 86 atc250r. I now own a trx250r, trx250r/crf450r hybrid, HRE framed atc250r, 86 atc200x, building HRE framed 2- 86 atc250r clone with crf450r motor and worked 200x motor.

Ridden 250ex, 01 raptor, banshees, 85 atc200x, 300ex, 400ex, blaster, mohave, trx450r, yfz450, ds650 and trx250x.

07-02-2008, 05:52 PM
I have not rode the new ones, but the older warriors, holy crap, I think a 250ex dragging a couple of anvils would be faster, and probably jump better at that.

07-02-2008, 06:05 PM

i dont like anything polaris, so i will say right away that the predator or outlaw are two of the worst.

the other one that i dont care for as much is the older raptor. my uncle has one and its fun, but i cant pound it like i can my ex. the tippy sensation is there, but i find that being hard on the gas and throttle steering it helps lessen the sensation.

the other one i HATE is th warrior/raptor 350.

polaris scramble is also another POS...ill list more as i think of them

I can't understand how people could say the Mojave is one of the worst sport quads of all time. For a machine introduced in 87, liquid cooling, dual overhead cams, four valve head, 11:1 compression, decent handling, and reverse, it basically was ahead of its time.

Mine seemed pretty indestructable in stock form but as soon as pumped some CWR juice to it, I had a few usual problems.

Sure, they had some downsides like kickstart and an oddball airbox system, but overall, they seemed like a good quad.

Now the Lakota on the otherhand was somewhat ridiculous.. it was a Mojave frame with a deeper engine cradle to fit the Bayou 300 motor, and the earlier ones even had racks on them.. I could understand some votes for that one I suppose.

What is the criteria here for worst quad?

Yessir, my buddy has one and he can't ride a quad for his life. Put water in the gas tank and ran it, his dad cleaned out the carb and what not and it ran. Leaves it outside everyday under a tarp. Use to switch gears without lettin up on the gas until I yelled at him. Still ran! Beats the living hell out of it and it always ran better than my old 300ex.:ermm:

the worst? the OLDER predators. the 2001 rappys. they both had significant problems.
i dont kno how yall can say that the 250ex is a "horrible quad" mine was bulletproof. sure it was slower than midsized quads(as with every other 250) but atleast it ran. i sunk it in mud pits. all we had to do was put it up on it end and drain the water out and she ran.
i went end over end on a track. all we had to do was replace the handlebars.
i shifted gears without letting off the gas. she still ran
all we had to do was change the oil reguaraly and she was good to go. only fault i could find with that machine was its speed. but its perfect for younger kids who are to big for 90's
this was my learning quad and if it wasnt for this quad. i wouldnt be as good a rider as i am today
This is jus my honest opinion

i didnt read the whole thread so I dont know how it went down but how in te world could anyone say the 250ex is a bad quad? I had one, my friend and cousin has em. They are bullet proff, you dont need valve adjustments often, it always runs and starts, it doesnt run super hot or anyhing. Its a great quad to start riding on. Learn all the basics and ride it till you can ride as fast as bigger quads on it then move up and you are great at riding.

worst quad of all time

2003 predator
2001 raptor
had the 2003 predator, ran great but rode like a broke back horse

and to defend the dope smokin dude at top of page.....my wife has a 400 scrambler that has been mildly reworked and that thing gives fits to all the 4 stroke 400's all day draggin. now the suspension department isnt up to snuff but that thing has never broke down in the 3 years that she has ridden it and it is good enough for her.

Thats just the immature kids talking out of their ***. See, they compare the 250ex to 450r's, and obviously the 450r is a better quad if you were to compare them equally but you can't. The 250ex is a good quad for what it was made for hands down.
