I just did an oil change in my chevy and the oil pressure guage is reading 20 and 40 is straight up. Is this a cause for concern? No oil is leaking and the dipstick reads good. Any help appreciated

My 88 Silverado does that sorta. It will read the normal 45 or so when its still cold...but it will drop to about 25 once in warms up. Its always been that way and i dunno why. :ermm:
Just as long as you dont hit zero or below 20 then I would say you should be ok, but im not very mechanically inclined either. :confused2

I wouldn't sweat the factory gauge readings too much, they're notoriously inaccurate.

what did it read _before_ you changed the oil? :devil

How old is your truck? Maybe your oil pressure sending unit is to blame. Those things are notorious for going bad and giving inaccurate readings.

its a 92 p30 step van, it was reading a bit low before i changed the oil but not this low :(

Could be a number of things. My uncle's 351 Ford truck did something very similar. He changed the oil and afterwards he lost pressure. Come to find out that apparently some type of sludge came loose from somewhere and was blocking the pick-up screen for the oil pump. The pump could be going bad, an oil passage could be partially blocked, did you use the same weight oil for this change?

i believe i did use the same weight, i always had a mechanic do it but got sick of paying someone to do something so simple, well i hope the guage is wrong cause this truck is my lively hood :(

Check the oil level just to make sure everything's up to snuff and if that doesn't work pour some Duralube in it. Didn't they run those motors with no oil in them??? lmfao:D

I think gettin away from the mechanic was a great decision there...why pay someone $20+ for an oil change that you can do yourself in 5-10 minutes. Its one of the best and simplest things you can do on a vehicle. :)

I wouldnt worry to much about it, just keep an eye on it and see what it does over the next week or so. :)

yea i was getting charged 40bux and it seemed to climb each oil change  and after doing the maintenece on the quad i figured why not use better oil and a better filter for cheraper and do it myself. well i guess it should be ok as long as the dipstick read that theres oil in there correct ?

thanks for all the help guys i know this is a bit off topic
