I assume 400 is 400cc. Can I find a used rig in decent shape for 3000$ if I dont care about the looks..?? Would be my first ATV.

397cc to be exact stock. Good quad for 3000 easy, you can find clean used ones for about 800 on up depending on the condition.

where would you look for a decent Honda for say 2000 around Boise,Idaho or around 500 miles.???I probably dont need 4x4 in the dry desert/prairie..??

Hit Craigslist.

The 400 is the best first quad I can think of. It's VERY forgiving in owner mistakes... in other words very easy to ride and learn on, and very forgiving of mistakes you will make in riding and maintaining a machine.

i wouldnt go for one less than 1500 if you dont care about looks there could be something major wrong

You can find 2004 and under 400s easily for under $1,000 bucks. Craigslist is definitely a good place to look.
