here is a pic of my shortened silencer, those who remember it know its like 2 foot long stock or longer, now its only about 7 inches long i cut over half off and am running the stinger only, some of you wanted some underseat pics also, here they are along with an old pic to show how much i changed the exhuast, it sounds much better and actually improved the bottom end a lil.

i think its http://www.gasgasmotos.es I though i had pics of the stock silencer, all i can say is look around the web *shrug* mine is newer so it had the chrome endcap some of the early ones had chrome expansion chambers (where as mine is nikel or flash chromed not sure) and black end caps. I bought it from a dealer in bloomington indiana called The Offroad Group, however i do think marty and jeff can get them at the quadshop now, when i was getting mine their paper work wasnt done yet with gasgas, and i couldnt pass up the deal i got on it. :)

Have you learned how to get the lap timer on the speedometer to work. I cannot get mine to reset with the lap button by the clutch lever.I got my 300 in november and still don"t have A operators manual for it.

LOL, I don't think any quad can pull that amout of horsepower. I think it has somewhere around 40 hp (Maybe). I have no idea where the name came from though.

Nice quad, how do you like it?

wild hp (this thing has a "wild" amount of power) around FIFTY ive heard.

Dude that is my quad!!!:eek2: :D The speedo problem you are are due to it is not hooked up. You may have to take the dash apart. That was the way my buddy's was. The dealer must of know to check for that when they preped mine. Also, this is very important, check the tranny oil level. My buddy's came with no oil in the tranny. Also check to see if it has antifreeze in the coolant and not just water. ;)
You might want to gusset the seat tabs on the frame. They will bend. I am going to do mine, my buddy already did his.
So what do you think of her? If you adjust the camber and toe in, it will steer alot easier. I am finially getting the suspension dialed in on mine. It was pretty stiff to start out.
I hope you like her, I sure like mine. Although I liked the 450 better.
Would you pass the link to owners manual. Thanks. :D

Thats the manual ^, where do you hook it up, if you could please ask your buddy, i have to take the lens off evertime i wash it to get the dirt out, if noticed i also painted my headlight bezel/mirror flat black, tends to give it a modern look, and didnt cut down on the beam too much, i like mine, my seat brackets did bend down but seem to stay, i had to attack the rubber gromet back on i lost one but used 3 rubber orings i got at the hardware store, them and some safety wire and their not going anywhere :). if you have aim message me at gnccwolv312.
And hey bradley whats up man, its andrew the dude with the z400 that went riding with you jeff marty rowlrag and the others.
yea my antifreeze rezzy cap was a bear to get off, it did have antifreeze in it, but like my z400 was it was low, so i filled er up. other than that i cant think of anything else i have done, hopefully i can get it narrowed up to do some woods racing. funds however are a lil tight right now. anyway. lata

i'm about 2 weeks from placing an order for my GasGas 300, i'm going to put the LT racing parts on it from the start(PV cover, jet kit, 120mm suspension link, & case saver) maybe some other mods... i like the shorty silencer, but will stick with stock so i can pass sound check at the Dunes. i can't wait to get it!

factory specs say the 300 2-stroke puts out about 51 Hp at the crank and the 450 EFI thumper puts out about 48 Hp at the crank.... but it appears that the thumpers have been recalled.

oynot400
03-29-2003, 02:24 AM
Thanks for the link. They must of just put that on there. The last time I looked it was not there. I talked with Tim last night, where his speedo was unhooked was behind the dash. Right where you put the batteries for the speedo display.
I heard that there was someone out there making hop up kits for them already, do you have a link?
I called Gas Gas yesterday, sometimes it is good to complain directly to the company. I told them how disappointed I was that my 450 was taken away and I wanted to know why. They told me that they had some bad parts from a vender. There was only a few quads affected in the US that were recalled. Then again there was only a few quads in the US.
He kept insisting that they stand behind there product, they have in the past and will do so in the future. They also want happy custumers. So I asked what he was going to do for me. They are suppose to send me free Gas Gas riding apperal.
He also assured me that the 450 would come back real soon. I told him that I wanted that one back as soon as it was available, he would not give me a time frame. :(
I also asked him about a thumb throttle. He said that would be up to the aftermarket companies to come up with one.

Yea, gt thunder makes some a-arms, I have a thumb throttle on mine cost me like 70 bucks, its an LT250R throttle and cable, you can order them as an assembly from any good suzuki parts supplier, i.e honda of troy, The dash is plugged in but dont do anything but keep time, i am taking it up to the dealer to let them fix it, which they will do. anyway have fun, and bradley, you should be able to order a 48" wide version now.

FASTeR

ankle is doing better, i rode with brian the other day and it started hurting like a muther, any time i come to a rough section or jump I have to ride with my left foot down and my right just kinda resting on the peg. it sucks, i am getting new boots soon, and will prolly duct tape my ankle in a makeshift flexi-cast so i can ride :) not to mention kickstarting is always a blast with a cracked ankle ahha

hey lt i saw yours at the quadshop, it was the monday after the dealer show that i saw it, i had just got mine, took some notes since yours had been ridden, got the same throttle and cable, took the spindles off and had them painted, i am hoping to buy some a-arms soon.

lt250r91
03-31-2003, 09:05 AM
Yep, jeff and Marty looked at the shocks and were trying to help me get them ready for the Gncc's. Marty got some specs and is looking into getting elka's for the fronts and a conversion kit for the rear. I had Olhins play with the fronts a little more at Florida and am happy with the set-up right now so I'm going to stick with the Stockers for now. Hope you get yours set-up.

Right now I'll having problems with it over heating. I've talked to my dealer about it and we both think that radiator side louvers and a screen in front of the radiator would solve the problem. Hopefully I'll be able to test it this weekend at a District race and see if that solves the problem. We think that the tires are throwing mud up into the radiator and pluggin it. I tried a screen in the front this past weekend and it still over heated so I'll looking to fab up some type of sides to test. I'll get back with everyone on how this weekend goes and if that fixes the problem.

Later

thats cool. I would think fabbing them up would be pretty easy, there are a few places i was noting, i have old plastic scoops off my 250r and screeen i might try, mine hasnt gotten to hot yet, but its been pretty cool here, you've had to run some nasty races so far too so who knows, i noticed a few other gasgas's in the results, maybe ask those guys, you could be a little lean too, afterall fuel and oil help to cool the engine, i am running silkolene @ 32:1 right now with no problems, i have done alot of sitting and idling and low speed high rpm hill climbs, i think i am am going to switch to smaller front sprocket or a couple teeth larger rear, this things geared pretty much for top end it seems. I am gonna make an airbox lid out of my z400's (stolen) airbox lid that i had taken off, i noticed lt-racing has the rear shock link done, i will prolly get that, really the front isnt that bad for me (210lbs) i do however have to get new handle bars, with a higher rise. ne way lemme know how the scoops go, maybe we can get some out of carbon fiber from someone. I might try to mold me a set. :D

lt250r91
03-31-2003, 12:06 PM
I have the rear linkage from lt-racing. It moved the rear up about 3/8" so it helped to increase travel buy removing the external spacer under the bumper. As for the overheating issue. I talked to my dealer and he called the east coast sales rep. (Rick at Grove City Motorsports in PA) and he said they have went to a larger over flow bottle and moved it under the seat where the battery box is for the 450. He also said one of the rider direct wired the fan so it runs all the time. This have helped the overheating issue, but he said that adding side scoops would also help keep the mud from the tires caking up on the radiator. I'm getting the bottle kit from Rick and hope to have it on this weekend.

I'd recommend a larger rear sprocket over a smaller front. The owner of LT Racing said that is the better way to go. He said something about hp loss with a smaller front. If you plan on buying some of his stuff call and ask him about this. He can explain it better than me.

Mike

FASTeR
03-31-2003, 02:29 PM
sounds good, lemme know how much this bottle kit costs. I know some fellas with drag shees that dont use bottles anymore, if its not expensive (i am a broke mofo) i may try it, i am still trying to get my speedo/dash to work, it comes on but records no data.i'm sure its something stupid. I looked at mine no room for scoops that i see, but with the wider a-arms and offset stock wheels the dirt would go passed it.. i dunno you may look at a 250 aluminum radiator, i used to have a big aluminum radiator on my shee and you could ride it on the face of the sun without overheating.

I'll know this weekend on the cost of the bottle kit. So I'll let you know.

Mine speedo did the same thing. I was able to set the clock but that was it. I since removed it and the headlight to reduce weight and save it from getting broke if I roll the quad down a hill. Have you downloaded the service manual from gasgas website? Heres the link if you need it http://www.gasgasmotos.es/eng/quad/quad_300/03q300.htm

and go to the bottom and click on the service manual link.
They also have a link to the parts list, but it doesn't work yet.

If that doesn't help I'd take it to your dealer and let them figure it out. They my have to call and talk to GasGas to figure it out, but they will get it working for you.

As for the scoops I jsut took measurement off mine and I'm either going to design and biult a set or call Cycra and see if they are interested in making a set (since I live close to them). I'll let everyone know what comes of this and will post pictures of the scoops as soon as there on the quad.

I would image it is the old style. It is the same as my buddy's, he has it since nov. I liked the 450 better, it seemed to have a plusher ride. The 300 is prettys stiff, even after I have adjusted it some. Part of it may be that it is new and has to get broke in.

A question for the GG owners...

- what kind of pickup does the speedo use?
i'm led to believe it has a magnetic pickup on a front spindle & hub....
- if i change tire sizes, can it be recalibrated?

i'm also concerned about warranty, if i buy one from a dealer out of state, will i get the same warranty coverage at my local dealer? or will they be steamed that i didn't buy it from them.. & give me shoddy work or not want to help me out at all?.... (the differece is about $1000)

oynot400- i like the way the reflectors show up in the first shot

oynot400
04-09-2003, 01:14 AM
The speedo uses a mag pick-up off the rear brake rotor. I am sure there is a way to calibrate it, I just don't know how yet.
I am not sure about the warranty. That would be something that you would have to discuss with the dealer that you bought it from. I am sure that the other dealer would have to work on it, but they might not give it the prioty over someone that bought it from them.

I talked to bill at skagit for a long time and he was really helpfull. I think he'd tell ya streight out if he'd do warrenty werk on yer bike or not. I have a friend that has bought 3 bikes from then with no problems. Dray back is all 3 dealers in Wa might as well be outta state, the closest is a stinkin 2 hour drive.

BTW when are the 450;s supposed to be on sale again?

I can't get an answer out of anyone when the 450 will be re-released. I have been talking with a guy from Brazil. He tells me that there is a 450 racing down there.
My 450 had a different front suspension then the early 300's, which is what I have now. From what I can tell you from the little I rode the 450. It handles way better than a stock 400ex! :D

the caster angle issue doesn't cause it to dart to one side or the other or handle funny at all really.(that would be toe-in or camber) having more caster angle makes the bars pull back to center more like it has a steering damper already on it.... it will make it go straight ahead easier... also as a result, it requires a little more effort to turn. from what i understand the Gas Gas quads have about 15-16 degrees of caster, while most other quads are set up with about 5-6 degrees of caster angle. i have noticed that the quad requires some effort turning, but not tons.

as for what's faster out of the hole, from what i've heard the two GG quads are pretty close. top speed the thumper is supposed to have it. but i also believe this may be a circumstance of terrain, machine break-in, & tuning... the 2-stroke puts out a few more ponies & weighs a little less....
