I would like to purchase a new exhaust for my birthday. I need it to be a full exhaust system and keep in mind the header is a Y pipe. Which exhaust sounds the best? Thanks for your help.

I myself love the CT Racing one. Had one on mine for years and have one on my Hybrid KTM quad. Talked my brother in law to get one for the 450R and he sure gald he did. They still got them for the 400EX, all stainless steel. Get the turn down for it also, looks great, has the best sound and power IMHO. Not overly loud, just a perfect sound, had so many guys say, "man what exhaust is that, sounds awesome!!!" Check out there website. Only one I can recommend.

I agree with DragonGunner, I love my CT Hi Output full system as well. I've had it since 2003. Sounds awesome and you get nice power gains as well when jetted properly for it. I like that you can run the open endcap or quickly switch to the Supertrapp tuneable disc system if you need a spark arrester. It also allows you to tune the powerband and noise level. Plus not everybody and their mama has one so it's cool to have something different.

I had my header re-ceramic coated and then polished it up by hand. It looks pretty blingin' and doesn't discolor like chrome/stainless will.

Hey thanks for responding, you have a really nice looking quad. I looked on youtube for a sound test specifically for the 400ex with that exhaust. I couldn't find anything, is there anyway you can make a sound test video and post it to youtube so I can hear how it sounds? That would be awesome thanks.

I was a big fan of my Yoshimura slip on with modified stock header/ fmf powerbomb when I had my 400. My second favorite exhaust sound compared to the TC shorty, good luck finding one of those though.. I did not like how my friends HMF sounds.

I ended up cutting it down after a while too , don't mind the fishing pole holder.

Thanks! Here's an old walk around video of my quad. Best way to describe the CT is that it has a deep clean sound to it. It's not ear-splitting loud, tinny, or raspy.

Your 400 is so badass Nacs, definitely one of the best ones on here. I've got the HMF full system on mine, no complaints, fit and finish is good, even space out to clear the caliper for the GT link. It is ridiculously loud and obnoxious, but I don't mind it, everyone says it sounds mean a eff when I get on it in the woods. Any of the top name brand exhausts are going to be good, just depends on what sound you want really.

I decided I wanted a full exhaust and had narrowed it down to the Sparks, HMF, or CT and just ordered the CT exhaust based on some of the recommendations in this thread. I hope it increases my power some over the slip-on as it cost a small fortune but the cost was about the same as the Sparks and only a little more than the HMF so I guess $550-$600 is what they go for now. It is supposed to arrive next week.

When I built my 416 two years ago I just stuck with the HMF slip-on I already had as I thought the stock head pipe might give better low end torque. As I progress to climbing bigger and bigger hills I now wonder if the stock head pipe may be choking the 11:1 416cc with stage 2 HC and 450R carb. I debated and debated but I guess I will find out now because it has been ordered! One of the things that persuaded me as Nacs said is that I can run the open end cap or if I need a spark arrestor or less noise I can run the disk system. Thanks for the input Nacs and Dragongunner.

Your welcome, glad you got the CT, you'll love it. Run the turn down end cap, it won't be too loud. I run the spark discs only if required somewhere. You will get more gain from the full, not just because of the header but the way the cone opens up going back to the exhaust unlike what a squared off slip on. When you start it up you'll be grinning, you'll also be blipping the throttle more often just to listen to it.

Dragon I did buy the turn-down end cap. When you switch to the disks do you notice much difference in sound or power? I agree that I would only run the disks when going somewhere with a sound or spark arrestor check.

Sound is a little different for sure and a little less db. Mine will run a little richer with the discs on, use to put a very thin washer between each disc when going to Dunes in Michigan, required spark arrester, but last time the dnr guy caught me……he was a wise one…..lol. So had to go back to truck and take them out….haven't gone back since though, but when I do I'll try it again!!!

LOL at the thin washer triclick and that you are going to try it again. I am surprised they figured it out.

Ya I've gotten away with it for years….probably some other yahoo used thicker washers and got caught, this guy really had to look to see it and its what he was looking for. My nephew has a bad banshee with two in one pipe with spark arrester, but he got his tricked out, after he's in the dunes, past check point, he can slide the back cover over so he's faster in the drag races……slick…..lol. If a dnr guy gets to close he just slides cover back in.
