2010 apex kick start

I just installed new kick start parts. Kicked it over three times and smeared the gears again! I don't know what could be wrong. I replaced everything! Any help is appreciated.

How old is the cover?Check and make sure the pin where the small gear rides is not worn allowing the small gear to cock sideways as you kick it over cause that will do it every time.If that's the case you will need a new cover.Also check the bushing that this gear slides through for play.

I bought a rebuild kit from Gforce powersports which included both gears, the bushing, and the clip that keeps the shaft in place. I called Gforce and they said i may need to shim out the one way clutch on the crank. I have no idea how old the cover is. I bought this quad used on craigslist. I will look at it when I get off work tonight. I do know that both times the damage was in the same spot on the gear. Thanks for the reply.

It could need to be shimmed out.
