Tether cord Question

Hey all quick question , bought my son a 05 Suzuki ltz 400 for xmas atv in mint shape I installed a tether cord for safety reasons , I cut into the hot wire to the coil and installed the tether between there
my question is, is it gonna be ok , will it burn out the cdi box I am not hundred percent sure we did it right and don't wanna do any damage, It is working fine though
Any replies would be great
