I know there are a lot of threads about this, but most of them are from years ago and I know prices have changed since then. Anyways, what have people payed to ship a frame nowadays? What carrier did you use? I'm trying to decide if it would be cost effective to list a 400ex frame on ebay or if I should just keep trying my luck on craigslist hoping someone from my area will be able to buy and pick up. Any thoughts on this? also, how did you prepare it to ship? Thanks

I shipped a 250r frame about a year ago from Ohio to Minnesota and it cost 150. Buyer paid shipping. Only thing that would help a 400 frame is the removable subframe so the physical shipping size would be smaller. But with that being said I dunno if a 400 frame is as valuable as a 250r frame

I just shipped a 450R frame about 2 weeks ago. I used FedEx and it was $60 (from Alabama to New York). I've heard greyhound is a good option to use. I've shipped several frames and I always use pieces of cardboard to cover all the parts that stick out away from the frame (brackets and other mounting points), then I use shrink wrap to cover the entire frame. I've never had an issue doing that. If you list it on eBay just make sure you charge enough to cover shipping to the furthest place in the US from you (for me I usually just say California).

Did the $150 include insurance? FedEx won't let you insure a package if its not in a box like I ship mine.

$60 is not bad at all. I'm thinking I would take the subframe off and tuck it inside the main frame to keep the size down. Judging by what I have been paying USPS for shipping on some of the smaller parts, FedEx is probably going to be my better option. Do you also put a piece of cardboard all the way across the top? Or just on the parts that stick out?

Not sure how much it cost the guy who sold me a 450r frame to ship, but he basically made a box out of many other cardboard boxes and taped it all up. Did fed ex as well Im assuming b/c it was the cheapest.

Ok, thanks guys. Just found out the 400 I am working on pulled out a headstud so hopefully I can sell the frame soon to fund a GT thunder head stud project. :ermm:

About a year ago I shipped a ltr frame from Ohio to pa and it was $25 through usps. Used shrink wrap and cardboard.

Sold a crf frame about two years ago and it cost $20 to ship through usps using shrink wrap. This was from Ohio to Florida. Make sure you pick the cheapest shipping option on usps!

^^ that is pretty incredible how cheap that was!! Where do you guys get good shrink wrap? Would a Walmart have something like that? Or do you get it directly from one of the carriers?

$60 was just for the frame (no subframe). I just put cardboard over the parts that stick out.

I got my shrink wrap at Lowes. I'm sure Walmart will have it as well.

30 bucks from Illinois to Florida using FedEx! I didn't even go to usps to get a price, I know they would have been a lot more money than that.

Thats a damn cheap price! I tried to ship some rear plastics and UPS, FedEX and Post office were nuts.

I think thats part of it, but I tried to ship to several places with the plastics and its just so big and bulky I couldnt get a cheap rate. Was gonna do greyhound but we dont have any nearby.

Post office is REALLY bad for some things, IE it cost me 15 dollars to ship a box of 2 plastic jerry cans-but like 25 bucks to ship shocks..makes no real sense anymore.

Yeah at the post office, several times I have had a nice guy working there inform me if I use one of their bigger boxes, it would actually be cheaper. Why would a bigger box cost less? I don't understand it either.

shipping to a business is also cheaper than shipping to a residence.
