Hey I got a 2004honda400ex with a 440 big bore kit and stage 2 hot cams. Just put a stage 2 cdi box on it and noticed when idling it skips any suggestions.

Never heard of a stage 2 cdi box. Who made it? Many of the aftermarket CDI's that people have bought have said they do nothing or are junk. I've heard good reports from the Sparks CDI and I know the White Brothers are good, but WB no longer makes them. If you haven't yet, replace the stock pilot jet with a 42 jet.

Don't know the brand bought it off a friend. Doesn't really make it perform better just idles higher. I have the carb jetted an lexx slip on just looking to get more power maybe I need to upgrade to a 450r. Thanks for your reply.

I tried a few cdis when I had a 400, only one that worked was the white bros. All of them caused more issues than worked.

Maybe it's an AMR CDI? They come in stage 2 and 3: http://www.amrracing.com/catalog/honda/honda-trx400ex-cdi-rev-box-32.html

I tried the amr box as well and it sucked. The idle was so choppy and it hardly started. When i did get it started i noticed no power increase. And to top it off it fit like crap in the original cdi holder because its half the size. All it is is a xr250 box. I got my money back from amr.

Put the stock one back on and move on. Cdi boxes are a wast of time and money.
