So I know I'm biased when it comes to trucks, but from personal experience I've found GM truck motors to last and last. Arguments aside, these guys wanted to see how how much hp they could push out of a 5.3 before it blew. The result is pretty amazing to see how much abuse these motors can take. Make sure you read all the way down to the bottom of the article, there is an interesting twist...

I owned both a 6.0 in a 2500hd and a 5.3 non AFM in a Tahoe. Both awesome motors that I feel will run forever. Only thing is in stock form the 6.0 is a little underpowered in a crew cab 3/4 ton truck. Didn't help that I was coming from a built diesel

I agree about the 6.0 being a little underpowered in a heavier truck compared to the duramax, but they are definitely work horses. I'm sure you guys know the 4.8 5.3 and 6.0 are all the same motor just different stroke. Anyway AM definitely built a winner. I love my 5.3 in my 05 Silverado!

A GM 6.0 from a Ford 6.0 isn't very fair. But What I have found is that the GM 6.0 in a 3/4 ton can really come alive with a custom tune. One that gets rid of the torque management crap. I always thought that you had to mash the gas to get them to move, but with a tune, it made it feel more like a 5.3 on take-off in a lighter truck. the 5.3 is a terrific motor no doubt, but I still like my 8.1. It likes the gas, but is proving to be a good motor as well.
