This is my 1st post on here. I have the above quad for my 5yr old son and it needs some work. It hasn't ran in about 3-4 years and was wondering what would need done to get it to run good and where to buy parts at. I needs a new recoil starter, but not sure where to purchase one?? I have done a little research and found a coupe places online, but not sure. I want to get it running before he gets too big for it. Thanks in advance for the input.

Start by taking the carb apart and cleaning every port, passage and jet. Go to Advanced Auto or another parts store and get a gallon of Gunk parts dip, drop your carb in with all the parts and soak it for at least a couple hours. Poke a super thin wire thru the jets and blow compressed air into every hole. You can buy the recoil online but you may have the best luck with your local dealer, in the event you may need to return it. If you have good compression, and spark it should run once you clean the carb with fresh fuel in it.

I've never cleaned a carb before. Is it pretty straight forward? The nearest dealer is about 30 minutes away, so I may try to source one online. It should have compression and spark, but not sure. I haven't touched it yet. My brother had it before for his kids and they don't take care of anything, so it might me a lost cause. I am hoping not though. Are these small engines air cooled? You didn't say anything about changing the oil. I will know more when I get my hands on it, but wanted to ask a few questions before starting the project.

Yes pretty straight forward, if its a hole clean it haha. Online will probably work for you write down your vin its stamped into the frame and the 10th digit is the year. The lt50 went pretty much unchanged for the entire time it was produced but knowing the year insures your looking up the right stuff. They are air cooled. Its a 2cycle so the only oil you will have to change is in the transmission. The 2 stroke oil it has in the tank, if it has some, will get you started. Good luck

Thanks for the reply. It is in my fathers garage and he won't let me touch it. I may try to convince him that I am cheaper then a shop. I like small projects like this. Just got done swapping the engine on my riding mower, so I'm looking forward to getting this done.

Recoil starter and emergency shut-off cap purchased. They will be in sometime next week. Getting excited to get this up and running. Can't wait to see my son ride it for the first time.

Good luck with the project man. I learned to ride on one of these when I was a kid. Ours was yellow and blue. It is still in the family after all those years and my nephews are learning to ride it now days.
