Im sending out an SOS because I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I installed a LRD exhaust and a K&N. I installed the main just fine but the pilot jet I got from my dealership isn't for a stock 400 carb. SO IF ANYONE IN WITHIN AN HOUR OF BUCKS PA HAS A PILOT JET 42-50 FOR A STOCK 400EX CARB THAT THEY CAN LOAN OR SELL ME I'LL HAPPILY DRIVE TO GET IT. IM GOING RIDING TOMORROW AND MY BIKE STALLS WHEN I HIT THE GAS. ANYONE THAT COULD POSSIBLY HELP OUT A FELLOW EXRIDER I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

wellits not a pilot jet problem if you have trouble when you hit the gas. your needle or main is off

I'm running a stock pilot(2 1/2 turns out) and a 160 main. LRD said to run a 50 pilot and a 160-162 main. It hesitates when I get on the gas from idle and then comes on strong. When im coming to a stop and I pull in the clutch it stalls almost immedietly. ANYONE???

send it to a mechanic.. hell jet it just right for ya

Try turning out the fuel screw a little, maybe one turn or so?

This guy was asking for tech help - not cool tidbits of morris code. No need to post such banter in his thread

try cranking the screw out a bit more.. may help your hesitation on acceleration a bit.

if it's stalling when you come to a stop try turning up the idle speed a bit (this may take care of both problems) :D

if your needle is still in the stock position I'd consider raising it a notch (drop the clip 1 slot).

Thanks for the help guys - i really appreciate it. I didn't mean to step on anyones toes but you know how it is when your 8 hours away from a day of riding and your bike ain't running right. Thats how I was feeling - I think my problem is the needle is still in the stock position and I don't think I was looking at the right jet. If anyone has a Clymer manual, could you tell me if the pilot jet and the slow jet are two different things? I'm a bit confused and any help is appreciated!!:)

I would try taking it out to about 3.5 turns. Good luck

Sorry if this should now go in the powertrain forum but thanks for all the help everyone - my basic question in all that usless banter was is the slow jet different from the pilot jet? In the clymer manual it labels the pilot jet the thing that Deathbringer labels as the air/fuel screw on step 20 of his tutorial on how to install a K&N jetkit - http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19832&perpage=15&pagenumber=2
