I'm looking to build a bike that my son can grow into. Currently he is on a apex but i'm looking to build a shifter mod bike then eventually a 250 mod. Anyway I have the option of either using a YFZ 450 or a TRX 450 and was wondering which you would choose and why?

Thanks for any help in advance.

How big is your kid? If you are going right to a 250 mod then go with a 450 frame.
If you are going 90 mod you may want to look at a lighter frame

My kid is small but i'm hoping it will get him used to something he can grow into for a long time i'm guessing the Honda 450 weighs right around 250ish without a motor

I've seen 90 mods made out of just about every possible frame. Of the ones made out of full size quad frames the Can Ams seem to be the only ones to really compete at a National level. Im sure their are others bhai ut recently Dusenberry's Can Ams won . Just my 2 cents. FYI they are lighter than the others.

Seeins you're getting wound up to buy 20+k 250 mod in the future, money shouldn't be the concern.
I'd recommend getting a 90 mod chassis and letting him learn on a proper sized machine (you said he was small). You'll be able to sell that and go for the 250 when the time comes.:)

If your hell bent on building an 85/105/150cc out of a 450 chassis then there is no comparison between them...the CanAm DS450 chassis is the way to go. Much lighter and handle better than the other 450's out there... even with stock XMX a-arms and a good set of shocks...
As far as what to choose IF your not a fan of the CanAm, you want the next lightest chassis for these little motors to pull them.
But as LT80 says, if he's a little guy, buy him a used JB or Robert's... when he does grow, build a 250 mod with the chassis of your choice.
