Hey guys new to the forum just picked up a 2000 400ex for $1200...it runs great and it's pretty clean for the year. Just changed the oil out some premium in it and order a uni air filter. Have some cleaning up to do but for now it will stay stock other than trying to find some 450r shocks for it since I here great things about the swap. Just looking for any tricks/tips for this thing while I'll tinker with it. I'll post some pics once I'm at a computer

Remove the lid, make sure you oil your uni, get some good skid plates, make sure jetting is spot on and rip!

Great choice. 450r shocks are good, especially if you get them redone for your weight. You might notice a height difference when you put them on by about 1" or so because they make it sit alittle higher in the front.

Could always do some bolt ons like exhaust, filter, remove airbox lid, ect. Then rejet. You'll be good to go then.

They are tanks that wont die in the woods and still hold their own on a track for what they are. There is a thread below you posted by kt1148 and he is selling his 450r front shocks from a 07' R. They would be ground down and bolt on ready to go. Good luck

I'll probably keep the lid on until I get the uni...it has an old k&n that was filthy when I brought it home I know it was takin care of but it sat for about a year, I also have tons of mud and water in my neighborhood trails, should I worry about sucking in any water with the lid off? Also plan on doing skids lot of rocks as well but I do some metal work so ill fab some up

If you're worried about the mud/water then leave the lid on. If you're worried about performance/power then take air box lid off and re jet. Personally I run a modified lid with a homemade outerwears cover.

Since you have a 00', Make sure the throttle cable is adjusted 100% so you get 100% flow. I rode around for a bit not knowing I was at 70% power and read the stickys. I don't know if im jetted, But runs great with a Yoshi slip on uni filter and full air box no mods.

No problem, I understand.

I also ran the modified airbox with Outerwears prefilter. I didn't get mud or water in the airbox, the water would bead up and roll off.
