Hey guys, I was just wondering how durable these hybrids are or how reliable are they? More specifically the efi crf450 hybrids. I'm sure the chassis hold up well but how do the dirtbike motors hold up? Would love to build one some day. Thanks.

I can't speak specifically about the efi crf450s but quads are harder on transmissions than 2 wheelers. I've raced an xr650r hybrid that lost gears and those things are pretty tough.

Hey man, Are you the guy from NE Ohio? If so, I know where a real nice hybrid is at that is close to us at a great price... IF I had the extra funds, it'd be in my garage.

Yes I'm the guy from ohio! EFI CRF? I'd love to have one right now especially a walsh but same here the funds aren't there right at the moment. My ktms took most of that lol. I figured if I can't get the no link rear end on these ktms to work as smooth as a linkage rear end I might think of switching to something else. And I thought if I was to build a different race quad why not a hybrid unless reliability is an issue.

have had my yamaha hybrid for 13 years no issues. ill let u know on the efi crf just finished mine and racing starts next weekend. if u wanna build a efi bike just buy a crf 250r chassis doesnt take much to mod it in.

i had a problem keeping transmissions alive in my first gen walsh 450, maybe 40 hrs tops, sometimes only 20hrs, teeth would break off gears, engagement dogs and countershaft splines would be in tough shape as well. when the oil had "stars" in it i would know the end is near.

matt,

by chance what bottom end were you using?

Yes x2 on which bottom end. I've done a little research on them and it looks like the 2013 crf450 they went to wider gears in the gearbox which I'm sure would help some. Don't know how they'd compare to a carb'd crf bottom end though?

My KTM 520 dirt bike motor has held up perfect since I put it in my quad back in 06'. No issues or problems.

I have a 2012 crf450r motor on my ds frame and I now hate FI its a pain in the *** to star the quad. other then that no problems. most of this new dirt bike motors with fi are having problems starting. no more kick start for me.

your intake valves are to tight thats why its hard starting. mine starts mint. can u post some pics of how that was put in cause i have a friend doing one and the throttle body hits the frame and he refuses to cut the frame.

Aaaaahhh...screw them 4 strokes, my cr 500 yfz has been holding up mint. I've got two years of ice, moto, trails, you name it, its a blast, and its like no other, just reliable, simple, oh ya fast too. :D
