I have a 2006 that had what sounded like rod knock so we ulled it apart put a new crank, bearings, cylinder and piston including new pin, and it still sounds like it has rod knock. I have 3 450's so i am framilier with the normal noisy honda sounds. This is a sharp knock sound that 4-5 people have all listened to and said "sounds like a bad rod".

Side note: sounds so much like a rod knock that i pulled a brand new crank out and installed another one just in case i had gotten a bad one....

Any thoughts????

Thank you in advance for any help,

Grant

have you checked the crank between centers to be in tolerance with indicators?

any issues with the bearing pockets?

Swapped clutch and starter clutch etc... with known good parts. No change.

Countershaft bearings seemed okay but maybe should relook at them. Would they sound like a bad crank?

i'm no expert, but just speaking from experience. we tore a 07 er apart with what we thought was a rod knock. once we got it apart, the crank was fine and that's when we found the play in the countershaft bearings. we replaced the bearings on both sides and it took care of the knock. the play in the countershaft was very small, but it was enough. good luck
