Jetting question

What do you guys suggest to jet this at because i have no clue, its an HMF competition slip on with an HRC header so pretty much like a full system. My elevation is roughly 1200 feet if i remember correctly. I will probably be pairing it with a uni filter

Looks like he has an 08 and those jetting specs sound lk an 04-05 carb. So disregard that advice unless you have an 04-05 carb on your 08. Just saying

hrc jet kit from Woodward will get you real close, only an AF meter and a dyno will get you closer, 175 is a little fat. Honda part # 16020-NLZ-610 2006-2009 TRX450R/ER HRC Jet Kit (Includes HRC needle, clip, #55 Leak Jet, and 162 Main Jet)

I would guess you looking at something no bigger then 168 as the biggest but probably will end up 165 main and 48 pilot, and a 55or smaller leak jet

All i did was change it to a 140 main and its perfect. Im running the lid so its kinda corked up but spot on

Once you remove the lid you should be closer to a 155-160, 162 is hrc kit jet I believe.

He is used to having a 400ex there air box fill right up with mud and dirt real easy and you have to leave the air box lid on. 450rs on the other hand are designed to have the air box lid removed the seat and plastic seals up pretty good around the top of the air box. Honda designed the quad for the HRC kit which uncorks it from the emission junk. The kit requires you to just remove the air box lid.

450rs will not hardly run with the stock air box with the little straw intake in the lid not even a bird could breath out of. It is super restrictive. Let alone with a pipe on it. But can't tell this kid nothing he will have to learn things the hard way lol I have raced xc in down pours, went through huge quad swallowing mud holes and across deep water crossings some courses even running right down the crick and never have had any problems. I don't know anyone who runs the stock setup

Just the opposite, the kit was designed for the quad. You are right though the 450r box is better designed than the 400ex, the 400 is just wide open when you remove the lid.

also the hrc kit does not just require to remove the lid, it actually comes with an hrc lid. Most people that don't buy the whole kit usually just remove the lid, but if you were to buy the hrc kit you would get a lid with vents on it.

The 06+ hrc kit does not come with the lid only the 04/05. 04/05 has lot different intake it actually has a snorkel like the. 400ex. The 06+ gets air only from a hole in the lid with a straw that goes down in it is very restrictive. You can order the hrc lid separate though and it fits 06+ air box.

And I say they designed the quad for hrc kit it as much as they could get away with and not get in trouble like Suzuki an the ltr450r. Hrc kit is how they should come but can't because of emissions it makes it non EPA compliant.
