Hopefully by the summer i have enough money to buy a White Brothers all round cam and a 10.8 or 11.1 piston, put in a spring kit power bong header,,,,
What else do i need to make my 400 better than a 250r 660r and lt 250????
And what other thing do i need like carb largre valves etc....
thanks

i loved my 426 kit that tom put together for me... i had a white bro's mid'top cam, hardfaced rockers, titaium valve re-taiers and double springs, hinson clutch basket 11.1 piston and i loved it... worked awsome and could stick with a raptor in a drag.... 250r's?....um...it is going to take a good bit more than a 416 or 425 to beat a 250r with any mods... just my .o2 though....good luck and have fun.....toby

I have never had a problem with a LT250R. My 400EX has a WB R4 pipe and silencer & k&N the LT250R I raced had an FMF rig on it. I had no problem with this quad. He kept up out of the hole but I was gone after that, 400EX took the lead and that was it. He thought it might have been him so he let me ride the suck-zuki and he rode my honda, it wasn't him the LT just couldn't keep up after 4th gear. My 2 cents is the LT250R is nothing like the Honda 250R. Don't let this quad think you can't run with him. LT's can't run with my EX at least none I have seen I am not saying their is none out there that will smoke me but for the most part I am not impressed.

LOL...posts above...LOL

My mods keep me well ahead of piped Raptors, piped DS650's and modded LT250Rs & 250R's in sand/dirt drags, right thru to top speed. In pavement drags, I'm dead even with with all but a modded/piped DS650...damn, those things haul the mail on blacktop. I figure my mods are getting me 36-37 RWHP.

Oh, and there is something wrong with your buddy's LT250R. A properly tuned LT250R is faster (straight-line) than an equally properly tuned 250R. 250R's suspension will eat a LT250R's boingers for lunch tho...hence why Hondas have always been the benchmark in MX.

When i put in a 426 kit will the crankshaft (stocker) hold up to all the new load created by the bigger piston and higher reving cdi box(WB rev limiter)

Yes the crankshaft will hold up just fine. I want to do the TC Racing 425 kit. Tom (TC) said that the reliability mostly depends on what air filter you run. He said the stock filter is the best. I told him I just got a K&N and he said the reliability will be fine. It just won`t be as good as stock.

what does the filter have to do with the relibility of the engine?????
Well if you get dirt in it then youll have a problem but words i can t see that happening.. Plus if it cuts it down by what 1/2 of a month difference

Also will i need to cahnge the od of the valves and put them at a different angle or just leave them the way they are now????

Also how much will the 426 kit cut down on relibilty of the engine compared to stocker???
thanks

Tom told me that all the aftermarket filters don`t stop as much dust, dirt, and mud as good as the stock one does. That`s why the stock filter is the best filter. I will be getting my K&N next week. Not many people run the stock filter anyways. I don`t think it will really hurt reliability that much. I`m just telling you what Tom told me.

I don`t know about the valves, but Tom told me the reliability is almost as good as stock. I talked to 465Stroker who had the TC 425 kit and he had nothing bad to say. I think you should be alright.

Who are you getting the piston kit from? TC sells his for $120.

Thanks warriorMan ... When you got the info back from tom about the valves and stuff i would like to hear about it before i buy all the stuff thanks

I dont know who i am buying the kit form yet . I was almost thinking that i should buy the piston(WB or Weisco) alone at a 88mm valve spring kit power bong header WB rev limiter, valve guides i think thats is it and a WB all round cam or WB track/race cam can't decide??
What is the kit from tc???
Also what else will i probably need to make it complete

Run the 11:1 piston. I run 94 oct and have no problems at all. Higher comperssion will give a little better bottom end.

I asked Tom a while back about getting different valve springs and stuff when I did the motor. He said you don`t need them with his motor work. So if you don`t get TC work you would want to ask whoever you got the cam from about it.

What type of riding do you do? MX or XC? The 425 piston kit from TC is $120. His XC cam is $179. If you don`t want the XC cam he has others to choose from. If you ride in the woods, TC likes the stock headpipe the best. All the MX TC 400ex`s I`ve seen with his pipe all have the stock header.

What is Tom's number @ TC? So it's 120 for the piston kit, 179 for XC cam? You have to put hard faced rockers on for his cam?

12-17-2001, 08:59 AM
I've got the gncc national cam (xc) and really like it alot. It revs especially on top and but isn't overly aggressive. I don't even have my pipe on yet and the difference is night and day.

Tom`s number is (1-814) 723-3514. The piston kit is $120 and the cam is $179. You don`t have to hard face the rocker arms. He said the stock rockers are fine. What kind of pipe do you have?
