So a 2007 TRX450ER is swapping oil from motor to tranny. it sounded like a bad crank seal so changed that and it was good for a a short while. maybe 10-20 minutes. Shortly after it started doing it again. Replaced the right side crank seal as well as the gear that the seal touches and a counterbalance seal on the left side. Worked for a little then did it again. Anybody have any ideas what is tearing up the main seal? im pretty sure that is what is happening. Thanks.

Hey I think its a valve reed in the casings part no. 18601-mbw-003. If it's worn it lets the oil though..

Im pretty sure the reed valve doesnt connect the motor oil to the tranny oil. just splits motor oil i believe.

Just to cover everything, are you sure you're putting the seal in the right way? They will leak if the seal is put in backwards.

Metal side of the seal is facing away from the crank. This is how it was oriented previously without problems.

We are having the same problem, our counterbalancer bearings were bad, replaced them and that seal, has helped a bunch, but we are still transferring a little. Let me know if you figure this out, i will do the same

He got back to me on it. Said it was a kinked hose and no problems since. If you guys run a non-OEM breather hose system make sure it is routed correctly and doesnt have any kinks. This was a huge headache with such a simple fix.

Glad to see you got it fixed. Just to back you up on this yes you are correct. Only thing that reed does is hold oil in the crank journal during up stroke. Once the piston starts a down stroke the back pressure of the piston forces the reed open and forces the oil back into the stator cover to be picked back up by the oil pump
