Love my new 344cc Sphynx top end, but I'm having trouble keeping the front end down while drag racing the hill. My 86 frame is gusseted along with extra motor mounts, which deletes the use of the lower swingarm motor mount. Now I can use any year of swinger. I have a chance to pick up a +2 3/4" or + 4" 88 swinger. It should only give me + 1 3/4" or + 3" on my 86 if I'm thinking correctly. I mostly dune ride and don't want to sacrifice handling. What do you guys think about a + 3" on a duner or should I go with the + 1 3/4"? Thanks

A +3" swinger is going to make a positive difference in the ride. You will want to have your shock re-valved for the swinger length. I Just built a +4" for mine. I am excited to see how it improves my holeshot at comp hill. I have ridden an 88 R with a +4 in the dune (+3" on an 86-87) and it rode like a dream.

Great. My shock is rebuilt/revalved with PEP components.

Shock would still need re valving to compensate for a longer swinger. Length depends on how you want to ride out there. I feel the longer the swinger, the less rideable the quad becomes, except in a straight line of course...

I'd put an 88-89 length swinger on there and run less paddle.
