My old turd. It's been holding the floor down and making sure it doesn't go anywhere out in the shop.

I run one too and its one of the best skids when it comes to ground clearance. I modified mine a little bit cause I got a 450r rear brake and the rotor is smaller, so I made it hug up against it closer,

Cool I think that's what I'm going to get I was looking a rotor guards and I think that I will crack my swingarm

id definitely get one. wouldnt hesitate a second. they look ugly as can be when you open it up out the box that laz sends them in, but that hting can take a **** ton of abuse.

Here's a closer shot of it. I deff. would recommend it to anyone who wants a stronger skid than those aluminum ones. I have a 450 rear caliper on mine also, but since I had to flip my carrier to clear my sub frame (we won't go into that), mine still sits pretty close to the rotor.

Does the 450 caliper a big improvement and what all do you need to make it work

Stickman400
11-13-2013, 12:25 PM
Need a 450 brake stay, caliper, rotor and brake hub to make it work. It does improve feel quite a bit. But if you only use the back brake as ON or OFF then you won't notice anything. If you're used to feathering the back brake then it's deff. worth it, you have a lot more control.

I'm a front brake kinda guy, I barely use the rear. :p Looks like a neat setup though.

But awesome looking bike Stickman!

My brakes are either 100% on or 100% off so I'll just keep my stock one is that an aftermarket swing arm?

Thanks cheater! And it's just a stock swinger painted black, not PC'd. I just had a friend who does body work and builds stuff sand the surface down smooth so the cast look and feel was gone and then paint it with self etching primer, black auto paint and then 3 coats of clear over it. It turned out good but it's wearing off where the brake line sits and a couple other spots. I'm thinking about getting a Houser 450 swinger and putting it on the 400, but I'm still debating it. I'm not sure if I would really even need a longer swinger for just a trail machine. It'd help keep the front end down on really steep hills (the few that I would do), but that's about the only time I could see it being useful. I guess it would make it so I could flip my carrier back the normal way since it would sit the caliper further back on the sub frame when compressed, but that wouldn't justify a $650 swinger in my book.

I really like the smooth finish how much sanding did it take? And burguard makes swingarms bare with no coating for like $505

Took about 1 1/2 hours with a pneumatic auto body sander and about 3 sanding pads.

That was to get every bit of it almost as smooth as glass, top and bottom, every nook and cranny. If you just wanted to do the top side since no one is going to see the bottom side it would only take about 30-45 minutes.

I don't have a air compressor big enough to power one

That is a work of art my friend, whats the mods?

Stickman400

That does look good for what all is done to it. PC the frame, get some nerfs that contrast the frame and maybe PC the heel guards and a few other small things and it would look damn good.

thanks guys, i would love to get the frame powdercoated sometime, i guess we'll see if that ever gets done! The mods arent too wild on it, but they include: PC'd black wheels, PC'd Black subframe, AC Bumper. PEP Stabilizer, Works Triple Rated front shocks, Acerbis rally pros, PC'd black scoops, Bored to 416, Unit Filter, Pro Circuit T-4, Gripper Seat cover, Tusk Heel guards, Pro Armor swingarm skid, PRM bolt on grab bar, and probably a few other things that I am not remembering.

And how do they perform in the snow? Do they make a big difference over the knobbies?

tbrackman84

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/6eaOELMd8Ow" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The snows held up pretty good used them for 2 winters so far, I just try to stay away from areas that rocks are sticking through the snow, etc. They are only really worthwhile to use when the snow is fairly fresh and more than 1 or 2 inches.

And they make a huge difference when compared to regular off road tires. It might be hard to tell in the video ^ but they pull so hard it is sometimes hard to steer! I often had the front tires cranked for a turn and the traction from the zippers would keep pushing me straight, lol. But as you can see i was doing seom riding with a guy in a decked out rzr, and even in 4 wheel drive, I could go just as good as he could, maybe even better.

I'd say that if you ride in snow even a few times a year they'd be worthwhile to get. These ones are AMS Zippers and I get them on ebay ro something for like 70 or 80 for the pair. I think they are hard to find now but Mazzis maked 4-snows that i'm sure are even better but a little more pricey.
