View Full Version : Anyone else have trouble fitting a pipe to their Walsh narrow chassis?

I'm having a tough time getting a pipe/silencer to fit my Walsh narrow 250R chassis. I knew that ESR TRX5 pipes are fatter and have a wider bend in front of the cylinder than some other pipes, but I picked one up to try anyway. Sure enough, not even close to fitting the narrow frame. I had a Sparks MX pipe and silencer on the shelf so I attempted to fit that combo on the quad. I was sure that one was gonna fit. Pipe fits better than the TRX5, but it hits the shock (which is offset to the right due to the CR500 setup) and the curve around the shock area is too sharp. I causes the silencer to hang out way too far. Doesn't even come close to bolting up properly. I checked fitment with an FMF Turbine Core II I have and fitment was similar. I don't mind a little creativity to get things to fit an aftermarket chassis, but this one is not even close. Anybody else run into this?

I sent it to a friend and member on here to get it cut and tig welded to fit the frame, he used his Laeger cr500 frame to do the mock up and cutting and fitment for me. He has had to do this to the new LED pipes also. Arlan at LED said he needs to get a crfoo frame, shock with a swingarm and linkage so he can get all set up for making the pipes to fir for us aftermarket framed people. I hope this helps you out bud.

Well I would say get with joe (sj281) but im not sure if he will be able to do anything rite now. Or just see if jerry (laeger400) can help you. Trust me it sucks because no pipe will work rite now unless you have it cut and re angled to fit around the shock spring and crame tube.

I have a laeger chassis here right now with a 250r engine in it. I could definitely set it up to fit the laeger really nice but I wouldn't know how well it would fit the walsh. Jamie said his buddy fit it up on a laeger and worked good

Yah he did it on his laeger with a cr500 rear and it fits perfect, he tig welded it and the chrome or nickle is fine. You really cant tell that it was r hot angled unless you point it out.

Did you guys modify the pipe stinger, silencer tube, or both? I appreciate the help.

I know on my Laeger I had to play with my LED set up for hours to get it right. I had to change my Axis Titanium spring to gain 3/16"
to get it to fit. Plus made up some special brackets. Many of the early narrow frames were not made for big motors with big bore pipes.
The Pipe I was working with was a 3 piece pipe and I had to open here up. Here is a few links.. My frame was from around 1991

The only part that was cut and re angled was the stinger tip, it was cut and re angled to clear the shock spring and the frame to be able to put the silencer on and bolt it to the frame with a 1/2" spacer. Now all is good and it doesnt interfere with the shock spring or the frame at all. I would get with laeger400 and let him cut it and fig it, send him your whole pipe and silence and when you get it back you will be very happy with the fitment of the pipe on your walsh.
