Winter project......

So might as well share this project with you all. I am starting out with the following. 01 400ex, was told it was a 440 but ended up stock bore and piston. stage 2 hot cam, white bro pipe, full skid k&n filter few little things. Well about 3 weeks ago it shut off on me and just now got around to working on it. Ended up the oil pump went down, toasted top end.
Any how the planes are to bulid a good handling trail bike.
Engine.
426 kit, 11.1 piston 450 carb and some head clean up. I'm not sure on the cam I got a good stock cam but if I can get good seat of pants power from adding the cam I will. I may change the pipe I ain't really read on them. I really love the look of a cut down pipe but what is the point in this?

Frame.
gusset it, clean paint or powder coat. Have read that you can raise the shock mounts 1 inch to kind of give it a 250r fill?

Shocks, a arms and singer.
450R front shocks.. Not sure on back may end up just cleaning the stocker up.
This is were the fun part start. I have all ways wanted to make my own a arms. thinking +2 than +1 forwards, most likely just +2. these will have adjustable heims for ball joints and bushings. I got a lot of studying one this, finding out what does what, never bulid a independent style be for.
This may be a slow like bulid I'm a poor college kid with more time than money so I make what I need to.any how here is some pic of the turd...

So I got some more done on this. Got it tore all most completely down. Here is come pic's but i'm not sure on if i'm going to use what is there or just use my extra frame and stuff since its all ready tore down. I have a 05 bottom end with reverse so I know I am going to use that sucks getting off in a tight spot and pushing. I have some qustions of the chassis and shocks....I do not like how this thing handles. It fills WAY to top heavy. I have 23s on the front right now but have 21s to go back on. But I kind of want to stick with the bigger tires but want it to set lower and wider. Keep in mind I do not have 2 grade for stuff but I know how to cut/weld. I was thinking of doing 100percent custom but took a 450r a arm and put it up to my extra frame and looks like I could just make some tabs for the wider arm, has any one done this? If I could I would just use 450 stuff for now. And on setting lower, could I move the shock mounts up? and still use the longer shocks to get the travel i'm after? any how heres some boreing pics no fun stuff yet.

i'll have to get some more pics but you can see how bad my piston is.....

Allso has any one ever painted the motor befor? i'm thinking about doing my case valve cover and all that. chassis is getting powder coat

I dig the thread mine might get a tear down this winter too. I got a suggestion on tires, i hate 23's too. I run 21 fronts and 20 rears. Brand new GBC x rexs all 4 for $240 shipped. awesome tires
