A pistoned and cammed EX won't feel much different from a piped only EX until you race one. Mine didn't feel that much faster afterwards. However it kills piped EX's and piped Z's with ease now.

According to GT Thunder a pipe, piston, and cam is worth about 5-6 horsepower over stock.

Here's my buddies combo:

I.M.S. 440 kit
GT Thunder cam
Head ported and polished
39mm Keihin FCR carb
Sparks head stud kit
Sparks X-6 pipe

His bike runs dead even with my piped/tuned Raptor and our buddies piped/reeded/boost bottled Banshee. I have not seen him lose to another EX yet. Speed costs. How fast do you want to go?

my set up is faster than my friends piped DS650

how much would all that cost including instillation from a mechanic ?

Steven

cam $130
rockers $90
piston $130
exhaust $500
intake & jet kit $180
head work $300
machine work $150
gaskets $25
sleeve $65
sprocket $30
clutch $130

pay a mechanic?

it took me about 8 hours, taking my time

a machanic would do it in half the time... maybe 4-5 hours @ $60/hour

A couple of grand???

You can get this info a lot faster through a search. No one will be able to tell you how much faster it is going to be. Every bike is going to be different. Some people might think they got a big gain and others may think they got a small one.

I noticed a gain nothing major but most of mine was low end gain which i wanted for XC racing. I've only dragged against my buddy's stock ex except for a wb slip on and i beat him with ease. just my 2 cents CHINO

A piston and cam will add between 3-5 horsepower over your present combo. The horsepower depends on how radical you go with the cam, how big you bore the cylinder, and how much compression you decide to run.

If you do decide to go with a cam i'd suggest getting either the TC 924 or 926. Depending on what RPM you want your motor to pull. (XC lowerMX higher) If you go with a piston i wouldn't do anything over 11:1 compression with a stock rod. Also if you get higher you'll have to run race fuel. I got my cam at east coast atv. They have both the TC 924 and 926
