they are an awesome atv, good handling and light my 86 is 298lbs, good trail bike, put a pipe on it and it will go just as quick and fast as a 250x, the front wheels come up easier than on the 250x because the quadsport front end is light, my 86 does 60 mph with a Cobra jet pipe, rebuilt carb, bored .20 over, great bang for the buck:D

My friend Jesse had one before he sold it for a 250x. It was a nice bike, but his was a beater. If you see a decent one I think they would be a great fun quad. Not a racer or anything. They seem to run pretty good, Jess ran his out of oil a few times, ad really didn't take care of it at all and it always started after a while.

you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a nice quadsport, that white quadsport is faster in top speed than my brothers 250x with the same mods, but the 250x has it in the holeshot

suzuki made an auto clutch version of the quadsport too. they called it the lt-230e or something. it too was a reliable bike but not as sporty as the quadsport.

Had an LT230S Quadsport, it was a great bike but was stolen. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of it. It was replaced with a LT230E Quadrunner which was the exact same bike but it came auto-clutch and had a rack on the back. Here's a pic of my younger brother on one of the LT250R's and my youngest cousin on the LT320E. They were extremely reliable for us and went everywhere the 'Racer did just not as fast:D

My old lt230e was the same way. It threw the chain through the case once.

They are pretty good if you look after them a bit. My neighbor had one and he didnt look after it and it still ran good for a while... But he let too much go on it. Seized the piston a few times, and it started on fire a few times... and he broke a few chains. But he didnt look after it at all. It ran well when he got it and when it was looked after.

all the things you mentioned were repairable...........if he didn't repair & maintain his bike then how does that make the bike a POS? if the chain keeps falling off, it might be time to tighten it or replace the chain :huh

Quads just "don't start" mysteriously. If the axle was bent why didn't he replace it? Again, if it stalled why didn't he look into the problem? If it smoked it needed rebuilt, happens to all quads. Chain probably came off all the time because of the bent axle. And I'd make a pretty safe assumption that the sprockets were also in poor condition as well.

I had a problem with mine not wanting to start. lt would somehow get water in the carb. That was easy to take care of, just drain some gas from the carb. The problem I had with my chain was pretty bad though, I went through a chain about every month or so. No idea why.

my friend is having his dads friend rebuilt it now. Also my friend doesnt know much about these things. Just clutch, shift, gas... and every place they have gone to, to have it loooked at wont except it because its so old.

good bikes , You gotta watch the swingarm bushings, Thats what usally causes them to throw the chain.
The sideways kickstarter they have is pretty awkward..
They don't have much low end, so they are geared VERY low.
Alot of people seem to have problems with the rear calipers messing up too, I dunno if thats a common problem or not it just seems everyone I have seen/ridden had non-working rear brakes.

Now honda_250x_87 I resent the comment about "beater" "cheap" 3 wheelers. Some of us think 4 wheels is cheating. lol. I like seeing old 1980s bikes going for 2 time what exs are worth. And to me when you get advanced bikes you loose duablility. My buddy has a 85 lt250 hard tail chain drive utility quad. His grand father bought it new and when he died they beat the rat **** out of it.
I am amazed a suzuki could take that. And I think all bikes are different. You can see a bike that took no beaten and had probles and always breaking stuff and another bike same amount of abuse take no damage. But that bikes in bad condition.
So bad that anyone with a brain would walk away from but it fires right up and just needs a chain to go.
Im hopping to buy it off them and make some bad *** cash.

But ive never seen the yellow or white ones.
Those are slamming bikes. And just like the atc 200 x im sure you cab make that 230 a bad *** bike.

I have a 1986 lt230s quadsport best quad i have ever owned. Mine is getting rebilt beacuse it smoked no biggie just needed rings it keeps up with most sport quads on trails its perfect for me it allso does great wheelies beacuse the front end is so light the only down falls are that the shifter linkage wears out and the headlights go dim throw in a halogin bulb and you are set to go.O ya and it will blow a blaster out of the water.

Hate to drag up an old post but how do these bikes fair on hills? and small doubles? How about jumping period... I have some friends who's 12 year old son wants to start riding with us... I'm sure this bike would be a great starter but wil he out grow it in terms of starting to ride somewhat aggresive or wil i stand up to some tame stuff... Thanks....
