I'm building my 400ex to be a trail bike I want to get a aluminum airbox to hold the battery and electronics. I like the cfm airbox that has the aluminum lid and it would get air through the snorkel. Or get a um aluminum tank with the nylon air lid I have a um oil tank so I might match the brands but if the cfm works better I will buy it

Id leave the battery as is and simply put an outwears cover over your airbox.i had the lid style one for eons with no issues.

I agree with CJM. Both of ours are set up like that with outerwears cover and we just got back from the muddy, rocky Hatfield area with no issues

I just built my 400EX this winter with every modification I wanted and even sparing no cost I stayed with the stock airbox. They might look cool but I personally don't see any reason to go with aluminum. As a matter of fact, my 350RX hybrid had an aluminum airbox on it and I replaced it with a stock 250R airbox this winter as well because for trail riding I wanted to be able to run an outerwears lid and the aluminum airbox I had didn't have a lid at all.

This is exactly what I did with my airbox lid and it works great along with repelling water...http://www.atvriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?330349-How-to-make-your-own-air-box-lid-pre-filter-(step-by-step)&s=&highlight=airbox%20mods

If you're planning on seeing LOTS of mud or water stick with the stock box and lid with the snorkel. Otherwise, go with the EHS Outerwears lid in combo with the snorkel or without the snorkel. Either way works great.
