Fox float MXR or elka stage 1

I am building a trail predator for my son. I got an unbelievable deal on a elka stage 4 shock brand new but part of the deal was buying new fronts from the dealer. I wanted something better than stock so I opted for the stage 1. I'm not trying to go overboard with this build because in the end its still a 10 yr old machine. If i tie up to much i would have just bought a DRR or something like that. After purchasing the elkas I ran across a set of used fox float mxr. I ended up buying them also.

Have you guys used either? I kinda hate the thought of making sure his shocks are "pumped up" each time he rides. He's a typical 6yr old he will be on this thing everyday.
