A Wayne Haggerty built RT70 captured the EDT 90cc National Championship riden by Carter Buff last Saturday at the final rounds of the EDT Nationals. The final 2 rounds this past weekend at Batavia Speedway near Buffallo, New York would decide the national championship as only a few points difference separated 2 riders going into the final double hitter rounds (7 and 8) . Friday Night (round 7) Stepo on a 90cc Hetrick Racing 2 Fast would capture the win in the class and looked like the rider to beat as he moved forward to capturing a National Title, making it only a 2 point margin going into Saturdays 90cc Production main event with the points leader finishing 2nd. 2 riders entered the final race with a chance to win the title with only 2 points difference between them for the final race, so it came down to basicly who finished in front of the other rider to decide who wins. One race and one champion would walk away. Stepo pulled the holeshot and Buff came out a few riders back. Making his way thru the field Carter got right up on Stepo's rear bumper quickly within the first lap where he chased Stepo the entire race trying option lanes, jumps etc. Carter looked flawless on the track making little if no mistakes which can cost you in TT racing. Both where running lap times in the 58 and 59 second range which put them right in the mix with some 450 classes as they distanced themselves from the rest of the field and also making lapped riders come into play. With the white flag coming out with only one lap to go of the 10 lap race, Stepo remained in the lead and Carter was only a few inches off his rear grab bar. In the final back section Carter took an inside option lane and Stepo had a slight bobble in the outside lane and Carter pulled up side by side coming out of that section clearing the jump going out of a bowl section. Buff had now taken the lead with only about 200 yards to the checkered flag and made it thru the last 2 corners and crossed the finish line less than a quad length in front of Stepo to win the 90cc Championship. For a whole season to come down to one race and for the 1st and 2nd place finishes to end like this is why I think we all race. I saw so many parents whose kids where not even involved in this race more nervous than both parents. These where 2 great kids with incredible families and both well deserving of the championship. Congratulations to both riders !!

Stepo would latter that night go on to clinch the 90 mod National Championship and Carter had already won the national 70cc Championship going into these rounds.

Great job to both riders as it has been exciting watching them trade wins throughout the season.

Congratulations to Wayne on another race built RT70 national championship. Congratulations also to Rich Hetrick on a 90cc mod National title with one of his built motors. 2 of the very best engine builders in a series where horsepower is very important.
