I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so I figured the open forum would work.

Here's the problem... A friend of mine recently bought a 2000 Kawasaki Prairie 300 4x4. It is in mint shape and starts up as soon as the button is pushed. It accelerates smoothly and runs perfect, but it's so freakin slow!

Top speed is about 30 on it. Is there some kind of restriction that this model may have? We're talking granny slow. It has lots of torque and runs perfect but is so incredibly slow that I cannot express it with words! :confused2

The throttle stop is set all the way out... but it still seems that it accelerates the same at 1/4 throttle as it does at full throttle. You can be cruisin at a blazingly fast 30 mph at full throttle, let the throttle all the way back to about 1/4 and there is no difference.

Any ideas would be appreciated. It is all stock and in perfect working order. Is the machine actually supposed to be that slow?

Lol, that's true...

But a 250r wouldn't haul a boat back to a lake or plow snow very well...

He doesn't plan on anything sporty, but it just seems like the top speed should be faster than a mini quad. I was thinking it would be somewhere around 40.

the answer to this problem is that its a kawasaki thats why it is so slow

If its an auto, which I assume it is, its possible someone had the secondary clutch off and incorrectly set the pretension when they re-installed it. If its set wrong, the belt won't ride right on the pulleys and power will be nonexistent.

Honda owners calling Kawi's slow? Yeah right.

No my girlfriends dad has the same quad. And yes thats as fast as it goes. Those things are so freaking slow. There not even that good for climbing long hills cause the engine is to small for that much of a machine. But they run well and do there job. But yeah at the most you might see 35 mph out of them.

utility's aren't made for speed. They are made for mud and crawling through stuff. I have a 2002 Rancher ES 2x4 and it only goes 55 on a good day. Everyday speed is 45

Yeah right, a 440 against a 700 twin, plus the Scrambler has about 2K in the motor and will easily beat the Kawi, much less a little Honda 4-stroke.
