I bought this tire groover off ebay for about 70$ shipped, really wish I would have seen this years ago. it works AWESOME and im guessing this is what the pro race guys use to groove their tires? before, I used a grinder with a cutoff wheel and it got messy. I just finished trying it out on my rodeo tires, not too bad I guess. with some practice I could get better. and there are different sized grooving heads you can get to make different width gooves.

nice thread, very informative. I have a groover very similar to the one you have but mine is cheaper looking lol. I've only done TT tires, never done knobbies like this. Do you think the life of the lug will be less now that it's cut in half? My only concern would be those lugs tearing off since they are not half the size.

well, im sure it will wear down faster than normal probably. but it gives a lot better traction on hard pack especially. it lets the knobs flex a lot more than normal. this is how all the pro xc racers like borich, ballance, ect. who run razr rear tires groove their tires. basically the same as the maxxis razr XC tires with the grooves already cut in em.

It makes a huge difference on Razr's. A lot more forward bite, and a lot less life. But the extra bit was always worth it to me. Basically the same as the Razr-X model.

For some reason that first pic looks photo shopped, lol. I always wanted to get a groover to mess with my used Razrs or Razr 2s, looks good.
