WHICH CAM SHOULD I GET WITH A 416 KIT 11:1 RATIO
IS THERE BIG DIFFERENCE OR IS XR JUST MORE RELIABLE. GETTING MIXED ANSWERS

I would go for a Hotcams stage 2. I think its a little more aggressive than the XR cam. Just my input.

I have a hotcam and have had zero problems. My thinking is if you are going for a cam get the one that does the most for you.

Hot Cam, but I would put red Loktite on the gear flange and make sure it's tight when it's pressed on.

Allot of the guys on here are running hot cams stage 1 & 2 Sounds like the problems are fixed.

I am installing a HRC XR 400 cam. in my 416. Cam should be here wednesday. :D The HRC cam is the aggressive hop up cam for the XR 400 motorcycle. The stock xr 400 motorcycle cam is a little more aggressive than the stock trx cam. The HRC xr 400 is more aggressive than that. I have herd allot of good things about it and its a honda part. Should be very reliable. Planet Honda or Service honda can get them. May not be as aggressive as the stage 2.

I run the XR400 cam in mine and it's not as aggressive as the stage 2 hotcam but it sure is more reliable...:D

anywho..i guess it depends on were ya want the power..hotcam is topend cam..XR is bottom and alot of midrange..

HOTCAMS STAGE 2! ive already had people ride my 416ex and ask if it was really a 416 cause it hauls like a built 440. i think its the hardest pulling 416 ive ever been on. ive been on a few too so i actually have something to compare it to :macho

i do my own work. i like knowing what exactly is going on with my engines before i launch it off any kicker, just a security issue i have lol

you'll have no problems passin z's with a 416 kit with a hotcams stage 2. dont know bout the cannibals, never raced one before. im sure you'd give it a hard time but dont yell at me if you lose. haha

Is this kit easy to install with manual, after professional bore of course.

well i thought it was pretty easy. but ive rebuilt over 4 quads and 3 bikes before i did this. so experience helps a little but im confident that you can get it. if you ever have a question along installation, just do like i do. stop what your doing, and ask someone on here. :)

The XR cam is less than both Hot Cams by a considerable margin. The HRC XR cam is between the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Hot Cams, it is barely more than the Stage 1, even though the specs suggest not.

You can always compare numbers as long as you keep this in mind: A triangle and a box can have the same height and width but, they don't have the same volume.

which one of the cams will give you more bottom and mid range
hotcam stage 1, 2 , or the XR cams. what do you mean by more aggressive.
also when installing these cams, do you need any specail tools

SATGE ONE IS A all around cam, stage 2 is a mid to top cam. the xr cam is a little below a stage one.

more aggressive meaning harding hitting, pulls harder, more racer like cam.

no special tools needed

6mm allen
8mm allen
10mm allen

6mm
8mm
10mm
12mm
14mm
17mm

is all you really need a couple screwdrivers, torque wrench. fab fly honeys and a case of beverages, Bar-B-Q optional

what cam would be best for stock piston, stock every thing

Be the XR cam, the Hot Cams Stage 1 would give the best combination of bottom and midrange (it has the same bottom end as the XR cam but way more midrange, hence the more "aggressive" labeling), while the HRC cam would give slightly better upper midrange and top end and the H.C. Stage 2 would give the best top with the least bottom when comparing these cams.

There are no special tools needed for the installation of the cams unless you consider a press to be a special tool.

Can you put just a cam without a new piston and notice anything good, stg1 or stg2....

if you are going to switch to a xr cam, i would suggest buying a xr head gasket also

To get the best performance out of it i would suggest a high compression piston too. This will help balance everything out.

What about TC racing's cams? how do they compare to a hotcams stage 2? I know they have two types but how does the one that compares to the stage 2 match up and what about a wait on their cams? Does it take a while for them to make them or do they have a buch sitting around already?

your in for bad news:mad:

no it all depends on your compression and other factors like what cam were you runing before?

most likely it will hit harder and pull longer up top
