I like the look, Red cut plastic would look better IMO, But to each their own. That's how I want mine to look with cut oem red plastic so I an still run the stock lights.

To get the most out of that cdi, you might want to consider a stage 3 cam. It's more usefull for top end power. But thumbs up for a mx 400!

Thanks guys! i have cut reds but they are pretty rough shape. i like the lights better or even a hood with the maiers. I rather have the stock plastics i think they look better.
Stage 3 cam? ill take that into consideration

stage 3 has power top end power curve then 1&2, in your case you have the cdi box, which raises your rev ceiling a lil more. 400ex's aren't top end quads, they make their make HP mid way through the power band.

Actually, 400ex is a very good top end power quad, if you have no topend power or it revs slow in the top end your main jet is to small.
My 440 with a stage 2 cam, a 450r carb and kibblewhite valves was AMAZING on the top end, deff a high rev motor it was almost like a 2 stroke power band.
The issue is 400ex is very lean from the factory, a stock 400ex needs like a 170 main jet "NO LIE".
After you put pipes cams and carbs youll easily be close to a 200 size main jet.
Small increases in jetting like going from 148 to 155 is pointless, yoll never know the true potential of a 400ex motor until you go BIG on main jets.
I Used a 220 main jet in mine, another 440 guy here uses a 230 main, a stock bore EX that beats 450r's drag racing here has a 200+ size main jet.
GO BIG on jets and youll wake up any 400ex, the reason why people say a 440 revs slow is because they built a 440 then pt a 180 main jet in it and said it was jetted properly "but its not" its way to lean thats why it revs slow.
Also read the hotcams website, a stage 3 cam is designed for the stroker kits.
Try the main jet tunning method in the FAQ section here www.jetsrus.com
Nice quad BTW.
