looks like you guys may need to shut down new member sign ups and shtu down posting for a day or so until you guys can get the spam stopped. in my 6 year here, i dont remember it this bad.

With the level of spam we're getting, I think we've got it under control. What we need from the general membership is to use the "Report Post" button.

The new threads are fairly simple to identify by their titles, so that's easy, we usually catch those quickly. But many of the spam messages are REPLIES to threads, and that's where we really need the help from the membership. Just searching the last 5 replies from the top 5 threads in every section would take hours upon hours.

If you guys see a spam post, especially if it's a REPLY to an existing and legitimate thread, report it!

Admin will need to go in a change the new user registration process in order to get this under control.

I sent an email to the Admin. There's only so much we can do, when they are signing up one after the other. We could literally work all day long banning them. There are 4-5 that you can see in the current active users at the bottom of the page at any given time...you ban those even before they post, and they're replaced by 5 more in the next 10 minutes. Hopefully Admin can put some things into place to prevent them from signing up in the first place.

These are computer spammers right? I can't remember when I signed up, but don't you have to wait for a Mod to approve your registry before you can post? Or is there like a captcha type thing where the letters and numbers are hard to read so a computer can't get past that step? Sorry scro, I know it takes time, and I'm sure all of us appreciate the time that yall are spending deleting and blocking spammers.

Spam mania today, i've never seen it like this. It gets old for us members, but I bet it's even more frustrating for the mods.....we feel your pain Scro, that's alot of maintenance to keep these bastids off the forum.

I guess it's computers. If not, somebody's got the most boring, screwed up job in the world. This is no registration approval. I made up a name yesterday, and you basically put in a username/password, and you're ready to post. Hopefully that will be changed soon.
