I just got done racing a harescramble Sunday. It was really muddy and I got hung up a few times and was working the clutch a lot. Amazingly I got a good finish but when I pulled off the track I noticed my quad just didn't want to move. Engine runs fine but my cable was sticking and when I give it gas the quad just barely moves. I had to have help pushing it up in my truck. With getting stuck in the mud a few times and everything else, does this sound like I burned up my clutch plates?

either it is not fully disengaging or your plates are slipping

Thanks for the reply YZ, I orderd new clutch plates, springs, and a cable. I had planned to replace it this weekend. I might not need it all but it won't hurt to replace it either.

It's not the mud that causes the clutch to go bad, it's they way you use the clutch in those situations. I'm a little hard on the clutch anyway but I have never had to replace mine either. After three seasons of my abuse I can understand my baby needing a little TLC. I'm also going to check and adjust my valve clearence because it's due for some maintenence too.

How stiff is your clutch lever? Mine was super stiff. I wd 40d the whole cable and it's a lil easier now. But Not even close to a new ex. I rode a kfx last weekend. After my ex I couldn't even tell i was pulling the clutch in on it, it was so soft.

Play riding and rcing are not the same, not even close some times. And then you throw in the mud and getting stuck. Did you get a new gasket for the side? You will need one. Things when they are new work much better. go and check the pull on a new 400ex, very easy. Pull the dipstick out and smell it, you will be able to smell if the plates are gone
