So I trashed the frame of my 400ex/yz426f hybrid, my question is will my '02 426 motor fit in the yfz frame and what is involved compared to a normal 400ex swap.

I'm not sure what is all involved....but if it was a project I was doing, I'd go with a different frame. I went from a Walsh YFZ to a Laeger CRF and although the YFZ had the best components available, the geometry on the Laeger 250 frame made it a a far better machine to handle on the track. I can't imagine how the transition would be going from a 400ex to a YFZ geometry. You definitely won't have the rake, but I'd imagine that a YFZ frame would make the easiest conversion...

I'd love to do a professional 250r geometry frame, but that's a little over my price range right now. I started welding up and adding more gussets to my old 400ex frame tonight hopefully that will get me through the rest of the season, until I can get my hands on a new frame.

i have a laeger narrow frame that was converted by laegers for a yz426 motor. its in the garage and needs a home. comes with cr500 swinger. sell cheap if interested. i am not sure if i ever sent you picks of it. your user name sounds familiar.

it is a pain to put a yz in a yfz frame the swing arm pivot is wrong ect u can get a yz hybrid frame fairly reasonable now there not as popular as the crf.

That's kind of what I thought, the main reason I asked is most of my friends race yfz's so spare parts are cheap, I've been looking hard but so far the cheapest "professional" yzf/250 geo frame I've found used was 1200 bucks which is way out of my price range.

Man PM hontrx265r on here. I believe he had a yfz frame he was doing a yz conversion in before I bought his engine. Might still have it. I don't think he wanted a fortune for it either

I'll keep that in mind, but I just got laid off. so I'm stuck window shopping until I get back to work.

I think it would be pretty easy to do. I do think that a 250r geo frame would be the way to go. But if you have a yfz frame I dont think it would be very hard.

I'm still hunting for a frame. I'll have to measure the motor mounts of my buddy's yfz at this weekends race

Laeger narrow frame, modded by Laeger for yz426. Probably throw a yz450 in there with little effort. Needs top mount. Front mounts are there, bottom mounts are there.
750$ plus shipping for frame, fliptop subframe, near new cr500 link swinger with cr500 link included and i'll throw in a cr500 link pep shock (may need rebuild).
Needs home.

Why not another 400ex frame

The 400ex frames are too weak for the kind of riding I do
