Are your front rim's 4:1 if not then get 4:1 offset rims to narrow your front end down a little bit with those +2 a arms and send your rear shock to gtthunder with some stock 450 front shocks and tell laz at gtthunder your weight what kind class you will be running and what kind of racing and he will set them up really well as for tires I'm a maxxis person all the way razr xc in the rear and razr 2 in the front also ditch the k&n air filter get a foam filter I use a uni with an outwerwears filter on it

I had +2 and felt they were to wide even with offset rims to narrow it.....would strongly encourage you to get a steering stabilizer. Good shocks is probably the most important and put a outer wear over your K&N to help repel any water that might get in.

Is there any way to tell if my wheels are a 4:1 off set and is there an inset spacer that i could buy to bring them in also I found a set of works shocks for $35 they don't have resivours but I found a set of remote resivours for $100 and I have searched and found that you can add a remote resivour to these shocks is it a good buy I will have $135 In the
Plus $7.50 shipping and then what ever my local shock tuner will charge to bleed and fill them fcr suspension is who I will have doing the work on them

4:1 wheels look almost like they are flat on the outside with hardly any dish to them. heres a pic of mine, they are douglas beadlocks ( a good investment if you plan on racing). if you found shocks that cheap, chances are they probably need serviced and/or rebuild. somebody already mentioned gt thunder, and there are several other reputable builders. and also mentioned about the razr xc tires, I run them on the rears and I will also recommend them.

When you buy shocks you have to have them setup for your weight

I assumed that they will need serviced but I planned on getting them done anyway and I'm going to have them done for my weight

dont waste your money on those...buy a set of niced used 450r fronts and send them to Jet Suspension, GT thunder, Greg's ATV, or any other reputable builder out there and have them rebuild the shock for your weight, ability, and riding style...

the three most important things when racing GNCC is

1)handling
2)handling
3)handling

this means getting your suspension worked right. the works are ok for the average joe trail rider, but they lack rebound, and the money you'd put into putting rezzies on them, you could just buy the 450 fronts.

for a 400, IMO, its pivitol to get your rear shock rworked correctly with the GT thunder XC link. the rear shock, in stock form performs terribly. By getting the rear done wiht the link, it comletely changes the handling.

its also very important to get a steering dampener IMO. i run a ccp, which is a puck style. most ppl run the precision dampener's....but for hte priced, its hard to beat the CCP

Speaking of getting your back shock worked, where do you guys send yours? and what exactly do you NEED to have done to make it perform better?

Ben can you post a pic of your quad? I really wanna see it because I imagine itll be similar to mine when I'm done. Plus itll give the op an idea of a properly setup quad

Ya sure thing.....the only real thin, IMO, that its missing is a-arms. they're totally not necessary, but next season ill be going one of these three set ups

1) GT Thunder +2 a-arms/dwt 4:1 bead locks/Jet tripple rates (185# B class XC) or HLS elite front shocks
2) House +2 std travel a-arms/dwt 4:1 bead locks/Jet tripple rates (185# B class)
3) The new Teixeira Tech long travel 400ex a-arms/dwt 4:1 bead locks/Jet long travel tripple rates

I really want the Teixeira tech arms....if they're just like the 450 arms, then they're gonna be one sweet unit. Just gotta see what funds allow for the time being. Next year i'm gonna run the full AWRCS series in the sport class, and 3-4 gncc's in the sport 15+ class. Ill get my butt kicked bad at the GNCC's. Those sport class guys are nasty fast on those 400's and 250Rs.

anywho0, i dont have any good current pics, so ill take some when i get home from work tonight, but here are some action shots and some shots of it sitting still.

and here's a pic of my Jet tripple rate conversions. awesome set up, a little pricey, but they work fantastic!

The only thing thats different from any of these pictures is that i am now running pro taper 1 1/8" fat bars, atv high bend. i was previously running tusk chub bars, mx bend

the mx bend was a 2.8 inch rise and the atv high bars are a 4.75 inch rise. they may be a little to high for my liking so i may switch to CR high bend bars, but the mx bends were waaaaaaaaaay to low and it made it super umcomfortable to be in a standing position. so, i gotta put some practice time in this weekend to tell

i would venture to say, from reading what you have done so far that you should solely focus on suspension.

id do the following.

1) ccp or precision steering stabilizer ($200 & $500)
2) send your rear shock out to GT Thunder or Greg's ATV to get rebuilt and teh XC link ($350 total) or doe the same at Jet for like ($495)
3) either get 450 front shocks and get them revalved/resprung by GTT ($395), Greg's ($395), or Jet ($499 dual rate, $660 tripple) or you could get a set of HLS Elite series shocks for like $800 and they'll build them for your machine, arms, and riding style/skill/weight

coryatver, member on here, has the HLS Elites on his 450r and i know for a fact, is fast. maybe he can chime in and give some input
