What's next, a street legal pitbike? :)

Obviously wouldn't want to take it out on the freeway, but I bet it would be fun to zip around town.

gear it right and you could hit the highway. I like it personally. probably gets great gas mileage and would be an awesome short trip hauler.

I've actually seen a few 110 pitbike motards with license plates. As far as gearing a 150 for the freeway, yes, you could, but there are tons better options that a 150. I'm sure the bike is a blast around town, but it's going to take a special kind of person to want it over a bigger bike.

the 150r's are no slouch, sure they're a 150, but it's not the F model that i'm sure you're thinking of. A stock 150r will hit 60-70 mph no problem. throw some gears on there and you can run 65mph on it without being wound out. THe 150r's keep up with the 125 2 strokes on the track, they're not anything to compare to the 150f.

Yes, I'm aware of the difference between the R and F models, but that doesn't change my opinion. In theory, you could gear an XR50 to run 100, but that doesn't mean that it would be practical. Here's another one I ran across this morning. This is the F model.

The xr50 doesn't have the power to run 100, so that theory would not equate to an actuality. The 150r however does have decent power and especially good torque. The price in the ad is a little high, but a good price and it could be an effective commuter. Gear it to run smooth at 55-60mph and you're set! I owned an F model for a short time before i sold it for 1000 bucks. It was a dog, but would run 50mph. The R is a whole different machine.

Agree with other comments that it would be fun to run this bike in the city where you really never get up to speed. Try running this bike on the open road running 60+ for long...and well, it won't last long at all before it dies.

Tracks aren't really a good place to compare bikes as you really can't get up-to-speed on tracks (very few tracks have sections long enough to wind out a bike). Put them on the street and you will quickly see the difference.

I have a 350EXC-F which is a KTM dirt bike with signal lights and the whole deal, its a 6 speed and I need it to cruise. I usually cruise at 50MPH, 65 or above is a long time to rev it that high. Its geared super super high, and it needs every inch of power it has on the road to stay out of people's way

Plus it feels so good to pull up to hogs at traffic lights and blow their doors off :P

150 would be fun in a big city, thats about it.

I have a 525 motard. I know all about gearing and speed, thank you 400exrida, I know an XR50 won't run 100, that's why I said in theory.

Ive been tossing around the idea of making my CRF a dual sport this winter.......part of me says man i want to sooo bad but part of me says its too much steady high revving for that motor on the road.....ahh the dilemma lol

you should have said, in theory an xr50 will NOT run 100mph. that would have made more sense, because like i said...in theory a fiddy won't run 100 no matter what gearing you try on it.......my 400ex won't even run 100mph with tall gearing, it runs out of power.

since you said you have a motard i'll go on my bragging binder real quick.

i have a 600f4i with over 30k miles on it. I know plenty about gearing. in stock form the bike will run 150mph. I have it geared with a +10 tooth rear sprocket, it tops out around 65mph now. It's geared for stunt only with that large dinner plate sprocket. Before i put the +10 rear on, i put a +4 rear and it did about 120-130mph but gained a whole ton of torque. If you want to talk sprockets and gearing on sportbikes, i can go for days, pm me though so we dont' junk this thread up anymore.

i still like the 150r motard, looks clean and probably rips around town no problem.

A good friend of mine just converted his 450X. It really surprised me, however he likes my bike better with the 6th gear.

if i didn't live in illinois where it's damm near impossible to get a dirtbike street legal i would be all about converting a crf over to street. I think it would be a blast ripping around on one.

that would be sooo much fun. i dont see why anyone is trash talking the idea of a legal 150, its no different than the scooters you see everywhere, except it would actually be FASTER

I bought my wife a new 2012 CRF150R back in December 2011. I don't see it lasting long at sustained speeds. No biggie though, I just found it amusing more than anything and wanted to share.

I know quite a few people around here that make their bikes street-legal. Hop on your street-legal dirtbike, three or four stoplights, and you're in dirt in about 1/2 the time it takes to load it and strap it down.

If I was doing it, I wouldn't have the motard tires on it, I'd have something with a little more tread, but if I owned a CR150 you bet your butt it would be street-legal.
