What is considered normal 400EX valvetrain noise?

I been contemplating getting my valves adjusted but know that the 400EX engine is kind of notorious for always having a slight valvetrain ticking sound. Mine does not make any noise upon startup, but after it gets good and warmed up it starts to do it. At idle it ticks and riding you can hear it rattling some. Is this all normal or should I get the valves checked out? Thanks in advance.

I wldnt worry about it my valves make a good bit of noise once the motor is nice and hot and it's been that way through 8 xc races

If you have never had them adjusted, do it....its routine maintenance...I check mine every year......

I only check mine when I'm breaking in a motor or if they are tapping bad when the motor is first started and is cold

i try do do mine after every race (which doesnt always happen) and every time i take the head and/or valve cover off
