Search i know, And i have for a few hours now but no thread has narrowed down my awener.
I have an 05 450r that is kick start. last week my crank went and locked up my motor. A friend of mine has a 06 450r amd he just purchased a built engine for it.
So he offered me his old motor. It was electric start. I know you can buy a conversion kit but seeing as how i have everything from my 05 to swap into the new 06 motor i dont need to buy anything correct ? If i do thats fine i just would like to know exactly what else i need that my 05 engine does not have.

Thank you guys..

May I ask are this parts completely bolt on with no issue at all?

Maybe I'm not reading this correctly, but are you going to swap the whole '06 motor into the '05? If so I think you're going to have to make a few mods to fit this motor into your chassis.

The 06 motor will not fit properly into the 05 frame without alot of modification.

It takes a little work to get the newer motor in the older frames. I have a racing friend who has done this because he likes the newer motors better (don't ask me why). He had to make spacers for the upper and lower motor mounts. And they used the 06+ brackets on the top mount. It requires some modifying and in my opinion may not be worth the hassle. It would depend on how mechanical and good you are building custom brackets/mounts.

Plus he'll need all the electrics for the newer motor.

I have used an 06 stator and wiring on an 05. This was only due to supply of parts and i was in a pinch for time. it was also on a race quad that needed nothing more than just the necessary to run, but you would have to use the stator per what ever year wiring you are using.
