I have just about everything on my 400 except a big bore kit. Which do you guys think is better the 440 or the 416. I was talking to my mechanic and he said the 416 if done right is faster than the 440. When he said that there was a guy standing there who has a Raptor who said a 400 with a 416 kit smoked him at the races the other day. He said he outran him top and bottom end. What do you guys think??? Which is best??

I have a 440 in mine and love it!:D It does run warmer that a stock engine but I think you will find that with any larger bore. Some peolpe claim that the 416 revs faster than the 440. It could, but I don't know. I have only been around 2 416's, one I was waiting for exhaust parts so I was not running right and the other had been widened out with PEP shocks and a-arms. He also was about 100 lbs lighter than I was too.
The thing I realling like about the 440 is the low end power. I do some hill climbing and I have never ran out of power climbing yet. I have raced too and I have not had a problem passing R's and Banshees.
I believe both are good kits as long as they are done right. One thing I would suggest is putting a cam in it while you have it down. The combo of the two brings out the best of both mods. ;)

I will definately put the cam on my bike too. My mechanic said he will put the cam on for $200. Thats parts and labor. He is a good friend of mine and he always hooks me up on everything!

If you put in the cam, don't forget the spring kit also.

I can tell you from personnal experience that the 416 is faster in a straight line than the 440 and 465. This is if you do the other work that is needed to compliment the bore and compression.

hey wyndzer, your compression is way up to from when you had your 440 (10.8:1 comarred to 13.5:1). I am the owner of your old 440. Getting ready to put it in next w/e. Any advice or tips? Also, I there any easy porting i could do with a grinder?

Not real sure what the cam is. I know my mechanic said it is made by Honda. He said that is the best cam you can possibly have.. I dont know a whole lot about this stuff I am new to the Sport ATV's. I have had nothing but 4x4's previously. My mechanic definately knows what hes talking about because he has one of the the fastest bikes in Texas. He has a 250R that has everything you can imagine on it. Just think he works at the Honda shop. He has over $12000 in his bike just in accessories. Fully chromed with painted frame etc etc etc. It is bad ***. Please help me out about this cam and what compression I should go with and everything else I need to know. I got the money just aint got the brains I guess you could say!!! I will probably go with the 416 kit.
Thanks

Most everyone on this site is goin with the xr400 cam because it is just a striaght drop in cam. If you plan on running race gas only go with anything 11:1 or higher, if not you can go with the 10:8:1 and not have to worry about running race if you dont want to. Let me know what you are goin to do. I am still plannin around with what I want to do. Probably the 416 10:8:1 with the xr400 cam.

I build bike and sell them and six months ago I built a 416 for a buddy of mine and it ran great HUGE different from stock. Then last month I built a 440 for my brother inlaw and there is a HUGE differents again they both basicly the same mods and the 440 will by far eat the 416 in every way. The 416 piston weighs 62oz the stock 64oz and the 440 weighs 68oz so yes the 416 revs a little more but not a night and day difference. The only way a 416 will beat a 440 is if the 440 is just the kit XR cam and pipe. The 416 better be full race cam atleast 11 to 1 or better and full race porting . SORRY im not down grading the 416 just the 440 is the way better way to go and has overall WAY more power and worth the money saving up for.

What would the price difference be in the two. My mechanic will do the work for me very cheap. How much more would the 440 cost than the 416. I want to do everything to it. Port polish and all that stuff. Also what all do I need to do to it? I want to do it all at once.
Thanks,
Chad

Well I have nearly $800 invested in my engine with the 440 kit, cam, springs, port work and labor. My guy treated me alright with the labor, but it was worth every penny in my opion.:D
Just remember if you are going to play you are going to pay!

I think the 440 kit is 1 hundred dollars more then the 416 and you need to have the jug resleeved which is 150 compared to just a bore with the 416 $40 BUT WELL WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY

oynot400, do you have yours ported and polished and all that good stuff. What kind of difference does that make. I know I can have that done real cheap.
Thanks
