I am trying to get a little more pep out out of my 88 250x, and I was wondering how effective drilling holes in the airbox/ removing the lid/ or making your own lid with some type of screen is. I do not want to get involved with jetting because I do not know squat about that. Can I simply drill a couple of golfball size holes in the air box lid and improve performance, with out having to worry if I am running to lean. Also , exactly what does it mean to be running to "lean"?

You could do that drilling holes will help as long as you don't ride in a lot of water and running to lean means that your motor is getting more air than fuel.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU ARE RUNNING TO LEAN, AND HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE RUNNING THE OPPOSITE? WHAT EVER THAT IS REFERED TO AS?

When its running to rich the plug will foul out and it may be hard to start and the plug will be real black , if its running to lean the motor will over heat and lose power and will somtimes when its sitting there running it will rev up real high.

no when it does that its because its running on vapers and vaper burns quicker than plain fuel.

what is you have a aftermarket air filter and you drill holes, will you still have to mess with the jetting.
