ignition problem?

my friends 96 300ex has a problem with the spark grounding out onto the frame. its happening at the switch assembley and starter kill thing. where the part bolts to the fframe. the spark is jumping to the frame and nothing is getting to the plug. what could this be?

Where is it jumping to the frame from? Is his wire nicked or something? If its arching somewhere that means the wire has to be exposed. If you can see where it is arching from try some electrical tape to hold you over untill you get get a new wire

its jumping from where the switch assemble thing (#5 on the diagrams) bolts to the frame. its the part at the way bottome of #5 on the diagram.
