what kind of terrain to u run on and in what condition
i run mine off if its nice out
after rain or when its really dry out cause i dont because of mud and dust

i mean if mud or water gets in the airbox. i bought it without a lid and i didnt get it with the wheeler so i cant put one on. anyway it has a funny looking filter that is higher than the top of the airbox so the lid wouldnt go on. i guess the filter isnt for this wheeler :ermm:

If you ride in wet or muddy conditions get a outerwear cover to go over the top of the box or get a lid with a outerwear attached to it. I use the ehs racing lid. Seems to work fine, although will let a little water in if hitting puddles going fast. Take a look. ehsracing.com I run a uni filter. Most guys on here run a uni or K&N Good luck

outerwears makes a box cover.I modified mine a little but you can use them without the lid.Its not the prettiest thing but it does the job.and ya cant see it anyway.

I have a cover on my filter all the time and put one over my aluminum air box when I go in the mud or water. Never had a problem so far... As long as you ain't sinking your 400 completely half way under you'll be fine...

I run a K&N filter with an outerwears cover and a custom aluminum airbox without a lid on my 400ex. I race xc and trail ride and never have had a problem, been through some pretty nasty stuff too.

i run mine in kinda wet kinda dry conditions and so far no prob i never go in water hight than my whole tier but some times a splash though the holes pretty fast, but taking the lid off gets a O.K. from me, just have to clean your filter more

Because i ride it!It doesnt sit in the garage all the time. That thing has a hole lot of miles on it.I ride almost every sat and sun.And every time i do ride its atleast 30 miles.Sometimes we run out two tanks of gas in one day.Thats alot of riding.Im not talking about putting around either. We have a group of 4-5 that really like haulin arse! The frame may have some rust on it but its well taken care of.
Yea i did get another set of a-arms.Paint is worn off some but in much better shape than what was there.

I have three 1" holes drilled in the back of my lid along with a prefilter over the OEM intake hole in the bottom-front of the box.
It flows plenty of air for the below set up and keeps the crud out.
