So me, my girlfriend and her 3 kids went to E town on sunday, we setup rental karts with keith at full tilt for them. all 3 kids wer ein the small 8hp karts. they had fun..

I was in senior shifter. My girlfriend got a tag kart and was in the tag senior(I think they signed her in the wrong class. The kart she had kept stalling her first race(heat) and in the main she did good but the kart was WAY under powered to hang..Ketih was good about it and we are happy with how they did the rentals for us I was a bit scared for my gf because with the kart being underpowered she couldn't keep up and I was worried when they started lapping her... This girl is normally right in back of me and beats all the guys at the indoor tracks.. like I said thought keith was good about it and is hooking us up next time.. Unless we just buy a tag kart :)

While they were getting instructions and the like I started uncrating the kart I bought form steve buckner, burped the radiator and primed the fuel system, mixed c12 with maxima castor 927 at 40:1 to richen up the fuel for the weather difference. I missed my qualifying and practice because of our tardiness but there were only 3 shifter karts for the day and they were testing. Tech passed my kart. I got it started and checked over everything.

First impressions. Man sitting in that kart feeling it vibrating I was like OH boy this is gonna be a wild ride... Talked with both other drivers in the senior shifter and we all agreed to do rolling starts as they were testing and I was a newbie. As they waived us onto the track I staled it.........
Just kidding! I lighly got the kart moving and off we went. cleaned the tires up, got the green flag and stayed in 2nd up until 4-5th lap of the heat race. I went to turn in to the half straight and thought I hit neutral, got passed. started going again and felt this strong vibration out of no where.. completed the race limping a long. got to scales and was legal(I thought I was gonna be under) turns out the motor mount came loose and the chain was skipping.

the kart was awesome I was shifting fairly well my lines were ok I was inputting all this new data into my mind so I was not 100%.... butt dyno testing playing with shifting rpms and corner entry and exit speeds.. first race I did pretty good like I said. On a couple turns I did get scared the kart was gonna 2 wheel on me but I am fairly new so being scared is probably the problem as to why I thought that but I do know to watch out for that

got to the pits fixed the mount re adjusted the chain and watched my gf and kids race.

main heat. right before the main I new the kart was hopping around the turns so my fellow competitor got me a pressure gauge as my truck and tools were much further away. checked the tire pressure and left the front alone and lowered both rear tires pressure even though I knew I had to go up to stop the hopping (I was playing with the setup)

So we start and I was in 3rd for 4-5 laps first turn I noticed the difference. the rear was sliding out It wasn't bad but Iknew it was scrubbing my speed and not allowing three wheeling.. I did actually get the front inside tire off the ground which let me know the chassis is flexing for me.

All three of us were staying pretty close together.. I must say the brakes on the arrow ARE INSANE I was closing distance in braking zones every time on the straights I was hitting 6th too. Ended up passing for 2nd and I started catching 1st but then my stamina took a dump I tried tomake a cme back but 1st was too far.. its all good though it was only my first race.. the kart performed perfect mechanically the main heat and Im in the ***** now! My girl her one son and I are loving it.

All the fellow karters were great, they all were checking out our kart. and when I say its a 2003 and its mint like it is they are just like wow..

The track at etown is nice, however I don't really like those round bumps by the turns why don't they have the ramped curbs

enough typing heres the action........ hope you have facebook and if you do you can add me if you like, also, when you watch the videos press full screen and PRESS HD much better quality as the camera is a 1080p high res video

So all in all I had a great first time out and I think you all will agree I did fairly good.

heres a bunch of pics from the day, you can see hoe much my knees are bent

my shifting is off a bit, my lines were off a bit, the kart is NOT set up for me yet (im 6' kart setup for 5'7") so my lknees were bent a lot.. luckily the seat is perfect for me its a XL ztech and sooo glad I don't have to change it because I know they are hard to find

the only thing I really was bothered by was the soft spring ont he gas pedal, I kept tapping the gas with my foot and was jerking the kart around certain turns because it was so soft.. out of the entire kart though that's the only thing I am changing out. as well as the seat position..

Ill be at Millville this weekend.

Nothing wrong I guess, just remember you were in to ATVs pretty deep & now a long thread on your first time back in a while & your in to karts.

My son & me did that quite a few years back, had him in the rookie class, cause there were not many atvs for him to race with, just dirt bikes so we dropped out of atvs a couple years.
In the end, after dealing with karts & the normal idiots in the pits to deal with, sold the kart & gave everything had anything to do with a kart away or throwed what was left in the trash.

God! please give me enough common sense of thinking right, to never let the thought of going back to kart racing. Some love it, but the pits get old after a while.

Do what kind of pit antics? I've dealt with the forum crap on ekarting news and stood up to the flamers got kicked for a bit and the others did too.. I'm still a stand up guy..

So what are the pits like?

In the pits, everybodys your friend in the class your competing in, till you win, then they got their money out to protest. You good enough to win, they will protest, even if you was in a class running with your sisters son & might even be you momma pulls the money out to fund the protest.
Just about every race, some fool will want to fight, cause they got bumped or side of their kart got scrubbed going in a corner when they pulled down on you or vice versa.
That might sound like a lot to put up with, but thats not all, cause you got the stupidness going on with the track operator, like his son or daughter might be racing & you know they cant do no wrong & whole time they are cheating worse than anyone else on the track.

I been there, 2 different times in my life time, but the first time back in the 60s was on 2 stroke sprint karts. In those days wasnt any of that crap going on. In the 2 strokes it was a different world, everybody was grown ups racing.
Ol Margay sidewinder karts, 2 McClough 101 engines behined you & quick change gear case between them both with slipper tuned pipes.
