Hello -

Has anyone run the 2005+ Carb on their pre-2005 400EX?

I need to get a new carb for my 2001 400ex which is stock except a Uni air filter. I ordered this:

Honda TRX400EX OEM Carburetor Assy. (qb11a A) 16100-HN1-A42

The salesman said it would work, but I searched and it says this will only fit the 2005 and up. Should I cancel this order/are there differences?? I looked in the stickies in different forums and searched like a maniac but I came up with nothing definitive. Some places say the carbs are different sizes etc. I did post this on Honda ATV Forums and got one response that it would fit.

I have read that the 2005 and later carbs are larger, but is there anything else I need to know?

Im pretty sure the only difference is the air/fuel screw. I have a 05 and I actually put a air/fuel screw from a 04 in there because its easier to tune. Everything will still work though.

I would think it should mount up the same, if dealer is wrong take it back but should work and you have a 38mm carb instead of the 35.5mm. I think on the newer carbs you can't adjust the main needle.

Yeah, I'm with these guys. The only differences should be the a/f screw and the needle isn't adjustable, everything else should be identical.

Thank you for the feedback. The only thing we are worried about is it being too much carb as I believe there was a cam change in 2004 which necessitated the carb change (this is just what I've read). Should be able to dial that out though. I will post the results when I get them for archival purposes. Thanks all.

Cams the same through all the years.

Carbs are 100% the same excelt for fuel screw and non adjustable needle.

As was mentioned the 'new' carb worked just fine and was significantly cheaper than the older generation. Minor differences but nothing significant. Thanks for the replies and help.
