400ex engine builder near richmond va

i bought a 2001 400ex cheap because the tranny wasnt going into first and 3rd was slipping alittle. I tore the engine down and split cases to look at tranny and i cant see any obvious damage. i was wondering if there was anybody near me or relatively close that i could drive to and get an idea of the condition and maybe a few pointers on what to check for when rebuilding it. Ive replaced topends and have no problem with that but ive never tore into the transmission and dont wanna put it back together just because it looks good to me. something was def wrong with it. thanks

I'd just pick up a service manual for it off the internet for cheap. They show you everything you would ever need to know about a 400. I picked one up for about $40 off ebay.
