Recently took apart my rear carrier from my 400 EX, only to discover it was an aftermarket unit with 4 bearings. So I ordered all the orings and bearings and seals for a factory Honda Unit. Do these aftermarket carriers install into the swing arm with no o rings, un-like the factory one? I can't believe that no dirt and water get into these things with no orings. I can't tell what kind of carrier unit it is, as there are no markings on it. It does look like this unit on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Rear-End-Axle-Bearing-Carrier-Housing-Honda-TRX-ATC-250-400-400ex-250R-/251105556655?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D14349%26meid%3D7663598045115043980%26pid%3D 100005%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D5%26sd%3D281074765331%2 6

4 bearings? Those aftermarket carriers used sealed bearings and there are usually 2 of them in there and they are about 1.5" thick There are however seals that go on the outside of the bearings tho, the big round rubber things.

They dont use the o rings like the stock carrier.

thanks for the info, there are definitely four bearings in this one, two per side. The bearing size is exactly the same size as the stock ones. The outer seal are also the same size as the stock seals. The o rings I am referring to are on the outside diameter of the carrier, or that go between the carrier and the swing arm. thanks for this!

Yea, CJM is right. Aftermarket carriers (at least the few that I've seen) don't use those large O-rings on the outside of the carrier.

Ok letsback up a second here. There are 4 bearings total, two per side. Did you stop to think for a minute that whomever was int here before you just mighta messed your carrier up? Do the bearings sit next to eachother and equate to about 1.5" or so width total?

Not saying your wrong, but in all my years of working on these things I aint ever seen a quadruple bearing carrier.

Its could be a Armor Tech carrier. The grease fitting is on the side and it has two bearings on each side.I like the design myself. If one starts to go bad the other one will hold the load till you get back. You can get bearings and seals to rebuild them from Armor Tech.

Cannondales came with quadruple bearings stock. Same bearings as the honda but double the capacity.

seen quadruple bearings several times as well, it's not uncommon.

In fact the stock trx450r axle bearings have 2 bearings (next to each other) on one side and 1 bearing on the other side. Not all dual row bearing carriers are single wide bearings, i personally think having the 4 separate bearings it the best setup.
