Welp the 400 is gone, sold to a happy kid and his dad last night for an ok price.

I didnt want to sell it, but I have really moved on to my 450 and just dont have the space or time to maintain it anymore. I honestly really miss it right now, but it was time to move onto bigger and better things. Im sure one day Ill find another one for cheap and Ill nab it, but that my 400 needed to be ridden and not sit collecting dust.

The smile on the kids face when he told me his old stock one had NOTHING compared to mine was HUGE.

Honestly Dave, I began to wonder if the crank was going out as the vibrations were quite bad. Then again my friends 04 vibrated about half as bad when we did a 402 and wiseco. IDK if its the pistons, the bore/piston size, etc. I surely wasnt gonna break it down and take my 400 apart anymore, had enough of that.

Now, the big Q is do I rush my stuff to jet before Nick closes or find someone else?

DO IT!!!!! im super happy with my fronts that he did for me! its a big bummer, IMO, that he's closing up shop. He is one of hte finest builders around and, while others may peform just as well, hte build quality of his shocks is superb!

Sounds like it was a good time to let her go. Hopefully you will keep checking in here and helping out with advice as well as letting us know how it's going with the 450.

But you're the 400 guy Marc, how an you give advice on 400s now that you don't even have one???!!11!!1 :D

It sounds like you would be happier with just the 450 anyway, sounded like a good time. And I agree with Ben, have Nick re-valve and re-spring them 450 shocks before he closes up. I'm about tempted to send mine back in for a service before he closes up so I know I'll have a good set for a couple years before I have to find someone else.

I gotta give nick a call soon, but I just dropped a ton of cash on various parts I have needed for the 450 for eons. So worst comes to works I will find someone to do it or Ill BEG nick to let be his last customer. Im very sad he is closing up shop.

As for not having one, wtf I keep working on the stupid things over and over. Seems everyone has an old 400 laying around somewhere lol. I miss the simplicity of the machine, but the power just wasnt as good as a mostly beat 04 450 has (lol seriously it has more balls beat to hell than the 400 did). Course I made the kid and his dad smile with the amount of power that 426 was cranking out. They test drove it and wheelied like every gear and were shocked cause all they had was a stock one!

Dont worry I will still be around, I like giving advice so long as it isnt a stupid question lol. Afterall, he who has the 400ex sticky link in his sig has a duty..right?

The R is gonna be built into a desert racer, which was what the 400 was originally gonna be before I got bored. Just takes some time and money lol. Ill tell you guys what tho, I def wont miss rebuilding every 2 years due to use, that nikasil coating is tough stuff and holds up way better!

You won't miss it because you'll still have to do it, lol. The 400ex can run just as long if not longer than the 450r before it needs a rebuild.

Yes exrida, the 450r needs rebuilt more often than a 400ex. I am sure Marc is aware of this but at the least the top end needs torn down for the valves every year or two. Some guys are doing valves and rings every 30 hours to keep it running in top condition.

I don't know if I ever told you guys or not... but I also moved on to a 450.. It is a YFZ but is it a really nice quad.. Bought it 3 days before the Florida GNCC and blew out the rear carrier bearing and front shocks... I miss being able to determine what was wrong with my 400 within a few minutes of realizing the problem but this is a new adventure anyways! lol

Find the motor, find 250, 400 or 450 frame. Be happy you now have a quad that is actually usable lol.

Lol, while I agree with you somewhat. I ride open slate dumps, mostly straight lines so not too big of a deal to me. My last one had +2 lonestars with elkas and it rode amazing!
