we sold the old isuzu truck and went with a smaller quad hauler and we gotta test it out today. It can hold 2 quads and a couple dirt bikes along with tires, tools, gear and all the other stuff. Then if we wanna haul more we can just put it in the back of the truck.

here you can kinda see the run up, right before this you come out of a berm and do a step down into where the picture starts off and from there on your just holding the throttle pinned in 4th gear trying to hang on.

its set up for mx, really I just got smaller holeshot tires and shocks valved for mx. Other than that I got sparks racing exhaust, ac racing bumper and nerfs, tether KS, tag x-5 bars but the've been bent for months and months, my dad made the skids and I think thats all the mods I got besides the hipers.

The rims were I think 150 a peice I think or somewhere around there. I know I saved a lot of money by going with the quadshop though back when they were the site sponsor.

I think all yellow 400ex's have black honda seats but mine is a 02 and my dads is 03.

Also kinda OT but my bars have been vibrating like crazy lately would my bars vibrate more if the stem was bent because I think it is and I got a crack forming on the top weld and paint is chipping off?

03-16-2003, 02:53 PM
thanks guys:D I might have some more pics but those were most of the good ones.

heres a close up of the 400ex, I think for a color scheme where gonna get the frame powdercoated "elka red" and maybe get some black a-arms but that will pry be a long time because I gotta get a new stem, bars and start putting away some cash incase my swingarm, carrier or axle decides to go. Thank god i'm getting a job this summer:D My dad wants me to go with black but I think it will be to much. I'm trying to keep the quad kinda plain looking though, I like seeing something else besides racing graphics and chrome rims all the time.

I like it, it gives just enough power so that you don't need to use 1st gear when taking slow power slides. I like the looks and sound of them too. Still though exhausts don't help much for 400ex's but I thought this made plenty.

freestylexrider- i'm not sure what kinda shifter that is, my dad got it when my shifter went and I never gotta see it in the package.

lol, my dad is about 50yrs old too. Hes not much into the jumping but I think he just likes to keep up with me and do other stuff like trails and hill climbs. I'm gonna teach him to wheelie.:D

brit220 what did you mean by superbike stuff? Like wheelies and flatground stuff? lol, I did that a little bit but its nothing like I use to be. Its been months since I rode wheelies. Although I can about do a heel clicker wheelie:eek2: I was just messing around and showing off doing a wheelie while sitting on the tank with my feet out and about got my heels clicked. I'm sure I could get it with a lil practice. I'll have to get some pics. I also wanna learn wheelies sitting backwards.

Hey Nausty, where do you buy your quads at? Do you guys get them in Dubuque?

Nausty
03-19-2003, 04:05 PM
I got the new one at a place called Webers cycle center in Waterloo. It was a 03 for 4900. Also I got my quad a year and a half ago at Garvis Honda in Des Moines for 5300 I think.

I pretty much listed all my mods besides a few little things like head light covers and whatnot.

crap banshee, They blow away the stock ones but I've never really tested many shocks out. I like them a ton though it rides so nice on the rutts and trails, lowers the quad so it handles better and lands a lot softer. The one mistake I made with shocks is having my rear shock rebuilt though, it just couldn't keep up with the fronts performance wise and I was blowing it out all the time and I think I bent the shaft after racing a couple races without any oil in the shock. phew that was a bouncy ride.

Found another pic, I was just hitting it slow in 3rd gear messing around.

yeah, ive heard alot of good things about elka shocks!!
i have ohlins with rezzis on the front and PEP on the rear, im getting PEP fronts soon. they are ALOT better that the stock shocks!!!

Well I just got back from bussey again. Didn't get to great of pictures and most of them were taking in the beginning of the day before I was able to double into the run up.

Heres a picture of the down hill double which is about a 4th gear pinned jump into the downhill where you have to hold it pinned up the hill and take off. Phew its scarey.

I was trying to turn down the quad as far as I could in this pic. I wounder if thats as low as I got it or if the pic was just taken at the wrong time:huh But it felt awsome when I did it right and scary. In this pic I wasn't that high though because I wasn't able to double into the pit when my dad was taking pics.

We measured a long time ago how far I was going on the gravity cavity. I think we measured it to around 75 to where I was landing. I don't remember for sure cuz it was a while ago. I've jumped lots of jumps that distance. lol, I hope I don't snap a axle on a jump that big:o I wish we had more money though because right now i'm riding on a bent stem and bent bars so thats gonna cost a lot of $$$. We're gonna go with the oversized bars and a aftermarket houser stem. Then after that i'm pry gonna be needing a swingarm:o. lol, I'd really like to start widening out my machine or beefing up the motor this year but it doesn't sound to promising.:(

I'm gonna go riding this weekend again and i'll pry get some pics of me jumping that big downhill double again. I'm gonna start to relearn regular can cans and heel clickers again and i'll get some pics if i'm pullen em' off.

I'd get shocks before motor work so you can put the power you got to the ground and use it for all its worth.

I'm gonna be riding at a track with a 90ft triple but last time I was there it was pretty run down and the landing's were all messed up. I still havn't cleared this one yet but i've came close a ton of times doing test run ups and casing the last landing. Man I wanna hit it.

lol, i'm really bored if you can't tell:scary:

Nevermind bout indianola. I believe its only dirt bikes. Damn it. I went to bluff tonight and that gravity cavity track got some major rebuilds. I dont like what they did to the double before the cavity. Its hard to clear that thing. I don't know what they were thinkin. Then they filled in that huge gap ... I can acually clear that jump now. I just dont like all the flat lands on that thing. The 300's bout ready to snap in half. :D.. Oh well you headin to joes this weekend. I'll see whats goin on then. Sound like it should be a good time. Gonna step up and clear that trip??

I stil don't have them down pat mostly because I never have any good jumps but the way I did em' last fall was I just worked up my confidence a little by doing no footers and bringing my feet out in front of me and then as my confindence rose I kept bring them higher and higher until they could touch my wrists on the bars and after that you need to work on bring your but up and forward. I just try to imagine i'm trying to jump onto the bars and it seemed to work out ok. I can also do regular can can's and pry no foot can's if I would nut up and do em' but i'm usually stuck doing em' on 70ft+ft jumps cuz the smaller ones get rutted out.

lol, just about all day I didn't do hardly anything but jump the gravity cavity. lol, at first I hated what they did to the gravity cavity but now I kinda like it now that I can do it because you can land going so much faster:D Plus you can't see where your gonna land before you take off and it just feels awsome leaving the face 4th gear almost pinned and hitting the rear brake bringing down the front end in the air right after leaving the lip. I have a blast on the jump now :D.

I check out the face of the 90ft triple last weekend and it is tore all up and the landing is also pretty messed up too. I dunno if I could even double it anymore. Joe has done some work to the track like the 80ft downhill double where he fixed the face and also another downhill double and a few other things. I'll pry just try to learn some tricks on the one downhill double.

downhill double, the only jump that has ever scared me in the past 4 years+. First time I hit it I thought I was gonna crash but I just did it anyways. You can't even see where your gonna land until your preloading off the face. This pic does not do it justice. I've never seen another quad do it the entire weekend I was there.

Nausty
04-14-2003, 01:31 PM
new jump in place of the ol' 90' triple. Talk about a lot of dirt:eek2: I think joe is moving it back a lot farther so we gotta hit it faster. I also did a heel clicker over it but we only got pics in the beginning of the day. Also I seen a banshee crash pretty bad on this jump and went into a bad endo in the air.

Nausty
04-14-2003, 01:36 PM
most of these jumps are pretty small because were were hitting it in differant rutts trying to pack it even and just trying to get use to it. I think it would be awsome if we could move the take off way back for some huge air. I'm gonna hit this triple next time i'm there most likely, I don't think I can clear the hole thing but if I crash I crash.:ermm:

Honestly that jump is super easy, I'm not even kidding. IT was the first time I hit a ramp that wasn't all rutted up and had a lot of pop and it was nice and gradual:D Its like the quad practically drove itself.

The bad thing is that we're changing it but its pry for the better. I'd like to see it as a Seth ramp w/ that huge landing pad and you could just fill in where the take off is as a saftey and have one huge double. Oh i'm drooling thinking about it.

I'm guessing New London is in Iowa? I've never heard of it? I'm not exactly sure where Bussey is because my dad drives most of the time and I don't always pay attention on how to get to places unless its close. The newton track is actually by a town called lambs grove. I don't know what else to say besides its pry 45 min from Des Moines.

Look for 300exman's thread on "Bussey Pics" or something like that in the Trail Tales forum and I think he gives directions to the place. Like I said i'm not very sure where some of these places are other than what roads I take from my house.

300exman you were right, it was Winterset that was having practice and i'm most likely gonna be at Joes in the morning and Winterset at night. Friday I might be at Joes and Saturday i'll be racing at CR. Sunday i'm partying:D lol, I love spring break.

lol, more pics soon if you guys wanna see em????

lol, my dad is already wanting to do stuff to the 400ex like take off stickers, cut fenders, and get a exhaust and bars. He got a new bumper last weekend. He wants me to switch my good parts onto the new machine but I think if I did that i'd wanna baby it to much and i'd feel worse if I crashed and tore it up.
