I have a HMF Sport Series with quiet core and its just too loud.

I remember when researching exhausts there were other options that were in the 93 DB level. I am hoping someone out there may be able to help.

Was it the Lexx? Motoworks? Any others in that $300 category?

Anyone with DB level info or a link? Any info you can pass along would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Out of the ones you posted I would go for the Motoworks

I'd Motoworks and it is just as loud as the HMF, maybe a little quieter.. Not as throaty but still louder than 93db

Quad man - do you have a quiet core tip or are you running it open?

No, I haven't bought the quiet insert for it, I don't really need one where I ride.. I'm pretty sure there are two inserts.. I'm sure there's a video online somewhere of the sound... If the insert makes the Motoworks quiet enough for you, I strongly recommend the pipe. You can't beat the price!

Anyone know what DB level the motoworks with quiet core installed comes in at?

FMF Q4 is quiet, also HMF competition series with stage one insert is 94 db I think.

Fmf q4 is very quiet.

I've been looking for reviews on the Q4, but there is not much out there?

A few questions:
When mounted does it stick out past the rear grab bar?
How is the performance compared to the other slip-ons out there?

Doesn't look like it sticks out here http://www.x-h2o.com/showthread.php?123886-FS-Honda-400ex-FMF-Powercore-4-Muffler

And performance will be better than stock..

Has anyone ran the Motoworks Sr4 with the 1 1/4" quiet core installed? I am thinking this may also be an option?

DB level on the Motoworks? with or without the quiet core?

DB level on the HMF comp with stage 1 insert?

Well, after some more research, I opted for the Motoworks SR4 with the 1 1/2" ID x 7" silent core that claims to bring the DB level to 94. I measured the ID of my HMF quiet core last night and it was 1 1/4."

I estimate I will actually have a less restrictive exhaust (1 1/4" on HMF to 1 1/2" on SR4) and drop the DB level, roughly 3-4 DB. I could be way off on that, but it makes sense in my head. If the DB level drops by 3, as I understand it, the exhaust should be far more quiet to the ear. I am not looking for stock levels, just not so loud I am a target for the police. I will keep you all updated, the parts will not be in until early next week.

On another note, I may soon have a 1 ride brushed aluminum HMF sport series w/quiet core for sale.

The quality seems to be there. At least as nice as the HMF Sport I currently have on the machine. I accidentially ordered the Quiet Core without Spark arrestor, so I had to send it back for a replacement with the arrestor included. Initially, the quiet core gave me the impression that it will flow alot more exhaust than the HMF. I will keep you all posted.

Not to bring this thread back from the dead, but I wanted to update the results. The Motoworks with quiet core/spark arrestor is a bit quiter than the HMF with quiet core, but not by much. I have a hard time believing the MW is 94DB if the HMF is 97? I felt the HMF was still the better choice, performance was better with the HMF although the ID of the quiet core was smaller (1 1/4 on HMF, 1 1/2 on MW.) This is simply seat of the pants, but I had to reduce jet size with the MW and didnt feel the same down low pep. Both are quality, easy to install, fit great, but both are still to loud for my liking. I have no problem with DB at idle, but when you get on them it is too much for my neighbors. I put the stock unit back on last night. Needless to say, I may try the FMF Q4 someday but for now its stock all the way. Anyone who has experience with the Q4, does it still bark at WOT? How does it compare to the 2 choices above?

P.S. I have a one ride HMF sport in brushed aluminum, and a one ride Motoworks SR4 for sale, both in next to new condition. I have quiet cores for both and will include them for the right price. Reply to this thread if you are interested in either or would like to trade for a Q4 in similar condition. They will soon be up for sale in the Classified section.
